Is there any other docs on this?? Aside from being ridiculus, one would think there is more of a reason, some kind of reason? At 35 mph I would think it would take a life time to cross the lake.

The speed limit is ON THE ISLAND.
If you can't read at least ask a local.
How fast is your golf cart anyway?
35 mph on tourist crowded undersized streets full of golf carts, bikes and walkers is completely appropriate.
We are talking small islands here.
If they posted a 35 mph speed limit on key west would everybody think that they meant the OCEAN?
