I Got some Ilmors!!!
I just worked out a deal to buy a pair of new 625's. I'll let you know how they work out after I get them installed. I'm going from 525 efi to these Ilmors so I'm anxious to see what kind of performace gains I see. They are going in my 38 Fountain.

The 525's weren't enough for me, and I'm afraid that if I whipple them to 750+ the drives won't hold up. The 625's seem just about right until there is another viable option.
But the thing that really sold me is the fact that Ilmor stands by their product, and they are taking a longterm approach to treating customers. I expect that by next winter they will have come out with an even higher HP variant of this engine, and when they do they will offer the opportunity for their existing customers to have their engines upgraded by the factory at a reasonable cost.
What really impressed me was that they said they didn't just want my business now, but that they wanted to still have it 10 years from now.
I'll keep you updated on how it works out.

Sweet. I imagine there are several folks here that will be interested in the final numbers between the two sets of mills. What were you seeing MPH-wise out of the 525's? And yes, what are you doing with the 525's?

Re: I Got some Ilmors!!!
Congratulations on your new Ilmors. I have a set of MV10-625's in my 44 MTI and they have been the most reliable engines I have ever owned. They perform as advertised (625 bhp @ 5,800 rpm). I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants good performance and outstanding reliablity!

Re: I Got some Ilmors!!!
I am currently running XR's with imco shorties. Last year I bought a 2000 38Fountain fever without power or drives and had it repainted, all new interior put in, and 525's - one brand new and one with 50 hrs. I had new valve springs put in the one with 50 hours on it.
When the boat was first completed it ran with standard length sportmasters. The best on saw with that set up was 82ish, most of the time less. My X was too deep so at the end of the season I picked up a set of - 2 inch imco shorties and the boat really picked up speed I only made a couple runs with it before I put it up but I was seeing 86+.
If the Ilmors work out I won't have much need for the 525's. One person on the board has first dibs on them but if he goes with bigger power then I hope to instigate a huge bidding war for them
