Plastic vs carpet on lift

I keep my boat on lift year round. I have the boat in a shop having the engines worked on and notice a yellow mark on one side where the carpeted board comes into contact with the boat. I called the lift center and they said that is happens frequently when the carpet doesn't dry out.

All of the lifts now have the plastic runners under the boat. Is there any negative to doing this? I am thinking about changing my carpeted boards out. Thanks.

IMO, go with plastic... it doesn't absorb H2O and provides the same if not better protection between the boat and metal cradle.

The plastic virtually eliminates the possibility of blisters where the boat sits on the cradle. That's probably the best reason. It doesn't hold water like carpet does.

Thanks for the replies. Guess, I'll come up with the $400 they want to replaced the carpeted boards with the new plastic ones.

I'm thinking about changing mine over too because I get the same staining. Possibly the recycled deck boards, or the pvc board covers. I saw at a boat show 1 brand of lift that uses a semi-hard hollow rubber on top of the boards. That seemed the best as my fear is the hard plastic can chip the chine edges gelcoat if the lift comes up a little to fast with the boat off center.
