Never hear that.
In fact, I hear just the opposite. "At least I know you're not in the bars chasing skirts."
I guy could have a lot worse hobbies.

Re: "I Feel Like I'm Second Best To Your Boat"
Old Toledo story goes:
Guy gets a boat.
The more time he spends on the boat, the more she b**ches.
The more she b**ches, the more time he spends on the boat.
She finally gives him the ultimato - the boat or me.
He keeps the boat and names it "Split Decision".
True story!

Yeah I get it all the time about why I am on OSO , it's his fault he got me addicted. Like Fred's wife I like the fact that this boating hobby keeps him busy in the garage and close to home. Of course I am lucky I get to go along almost every time the boat goes out. I do feel for the women who are married to racers since they don't get to enjoy the ride.

How about when they want a new piece of furniture or whatever else? You say its not in the budget right now and they say" if it was for your boat, it would be in the budget".......Well of course it would. I cannot(do not want to) spend $4k right now on a sofa, but 4K for some new Herings? Open checkbook baby!!!!

Re: "I Feel Like I'm Second Best To Your Boat"
If I didn't love boating as much as he does, we would be divorced. However, another saving factor is that 13 years ago we moved to a place where the boat could be at home, so he would be at home, and I wasn't running food to him at the "boat shop" at 2 a.m. on a weeknight as I used to do. That would have caused a problem over time. I saw the problem developing and so did he. So we did something about it. I don't know if we would be having those "discussions", and don't want to think about it. I know that the move made things so much easier for both of us. It was a lifestyle commitment - I'm the one that searched like heck to find the right property for the barn. Ken is always "home" now, not in the house, but in the barn, otherwise known as Ken's playground. We love boating, but we love each other, and there is so little time to be together between work and all that other crap we all have to do everyday. Don't just slam her. If it the gal and the boat are both important, work together to make it work!

I guess its Murphy's laws of boating...Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. And however long you think it will take, it will always take longer. Anyone else forced into these types of "discussions"?? I hope I'm not the only one.
My wife now, on the other hand.. she knew from the beginning what the deal was. I remember the first day we went out on the boat, if she hated it then it wouldn't have lasted.
She complained for a while how rough the ride was in my old scarab though. So, I went out and got a bigger boat. She wanted me to spend more time at home so I bought a house where I could park the boat along side. She wants me to buy her some things because I was spending so much on the boat, so I told her to get a paper route. Just kiddin......
It all works out, you just gotta find the right one!

I am very lucky . My wife has her hobby and I have mine. Both take up a lot of time and $$ and we both are understanding and supportive of each other.
Get your girlfriend a hobby.
