I have not heard that they were going to knock the Hyatt down just the Quay (the orange building between the Hyatt and the Ritz)

IF the Hyatt goes (not a sure thing, but likely), it won't be before 2007.
Could be replaced by condos, OR by condos and a new hotel.
Given all of the high-end stuff going in around the Quay over the next few years, I really doubt if this (the basin) will be a high-performance boat friendly place in a few years.
But we've probably got a couple of years before that happens . . . unless a$$holes like the one on the Eliminator muck it up sooner.

Bottom line is that noise pisses off the majority of people. We are a minority among boaters, and even more among the general public. It wasn't too long ago that the locals were involved in a tough fight against neighborhood associations and the mayor's office regarding boat speed limits and noise. We won for now, but we agreed to be respectful and courteous. Negative attention doesn't help anybody.

Though not official, there is an agreement in place and the Hyatt has been sold.
Got this info from at least five different sources including locals news programs (ABC and SNN) and the Sarasota Herald Tribune.
I do not believe an actual sales contract has been signed though.
Concensus is it's a done deal.
And the afore mentioned dates are correct.
