put-in-bay
I have never been to put-in-bay. I think this will be the year. I am planning on coming up in july some time. I from southern Indiana Where would be the best place to put in at ? I need a good ramp and place to park the truck and trailer for the weekend. Would also want to dock the boat there the first night then boat over the next day. Any info about put-in-bay marinas and water would be great. We are looking foward to the party!

The boat we be a 415 chris-craft stinger.BIG LED SLED Matt There are multiple county ramps in the area where you can launch and also leave you rig. Contact the Ottawa County chamber of commerce or department of tourism. Below is a web page that lists the various ramps. I would suggest picking one on Catawba or Marblehead. http://www.lake-erie.com/launchramps.shtml Not all are listed on there but it is a start. Marblehead: Mazurik's is a great ramp. Lots of parking for trailers. I ramp my 39 cat there with no issues. |
Re: put-in-bay
Roger's run is a good one, and the people are great. If you can't make that one there will be a LEOPA (Lake Erie Offshore)Poker Run on the weekend of July 15 th It will include Friday and Saturday dockage plus meals and runs around $250.00 for two people.
You can not tow your boat to Put In Bay, you would have to put in somewhere and go over by boat. Private marina's are in short supply so it is very hard to get a reserved spot. The municiple marina is a raft off situation, could be 12 or more rafted off, if you leave you have to wait for a spot again. There is a state park on the island that used to have the winerary you can stay in the marina there and take a short Ferry ride back and forth to the island. Some of the more local guys can give you that info. By the time you add up all the expenses for food and dockage the poker run winds up being a pretty good deal, plus you wil have fun and meet a lot of people that know the area. |
Re: put-in-bay
I dont know if I can make it on those dates . I think that is the same weekend of the hydro-plane boat races here in Evansville.

Re: put-in-bay
You'll love it up there. Last time I was up I used East Harbor St Park launce and overnight parking. They also have trans docks, but you would be happier overnighting on the islands as there is more to do/see. Stay on Kellys one night, PIB or Middle Bass the next. PIB is kind of expencive docking on weekends and very buzy/crazy. You may like Middle Bass st park which runs a ferry over to PIB. Better dockage and still able to do both islands in one day/night.
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/parks/lakeerie.htm http://www.danburytownship.com/parks.html http://put-in-bay.com/ http://www.kelleysislandcasino.com/ must go here for an evening then putt around the corner for overnight dockage w/hookups. If you have older kids, Ceider Point would be a good place to drop them for an afternoon of fun while you and the wife get some alone time. Great marina w/limo serv to the park. July 8-9 is an offshore race in Mentor (hour drive east by truck) Don't know how long your going to be up but might be a fun day on your way there or home. ENJOY! You be back a second time! |
Re: put-in-bay
By the way welcome to the board, where in So. Indiana are you from?
You should take a moment and add it to your profile, you never know you might meet someone from you home town :D |

Re: put-in-bay
Port Clinton is a good jumping off point, not sure on ramps in that area though.
depending on what kind of a boat ride you want, you might want to put in somewhere on the west side of detroit, too. I think rafting on the public docks is limited to 4 deep. that's usually where the party is, though. There are private marinas on both sides of the public docks, as well as balls to tie off to in the bay with a free shuttle to the island. |

I second Mazurik Access for a good launch ramp and over night parking.
11. MAZURIK ACCESS. Located on North Shore Boulevard just north of State Route 163 (East Harbor Road). Amenities: Public boat launch, breakwall, fishing, restrooms. http://www.danburytownship.com/parks2.html No dockage but direct lake access. If you go in on the East side of the island make sure you go all the way to the marker before turning as it looks inviting to cut closer but is shallow. Usually there is a lot of boat traffic and you can see what they are doing. You can also go to the west side of the island and follow the route that the Jet Express uses in and out. Cordell |

A real big storm rolled in one year while we were there and totaled 2-3 smaller boats out there, and smashed a 68' tollycraft against the wall hard enough to do a few grand in damage before he pushed off and headed out to ride the storm out in the lake. This was probably 10-12 years ago, there were 4'+ waves in the bay and 70-80 mph winds. |
Re: put-in-bay
sleeper dave is right - don't dock or moor outside.
I haven't been there in a few years, but I had to anchor out in the basin once, and take a water taxi to shore. Took the latest taxi back to the boat - woke up in the morning to a really strong wind outta the NNE. It broke the anchor loose on a 35' Blo-bote that was heading straight for my boat - pushed him off (he was headed for shore if he didn't hit something along the way) Immediately hit the blower and pulled anchor - had one helluva good ride running back to the Maumee river - was a damn good thing I fueled right when I got there the night before. Get there fairly early on a Fri. and get into a raft on the public docks - it used to be the bars closed at 1:00, so the party moved out to the docks. Not sure how late they stay open now. Don't get arrested there  Not that I would know... It is a pretty quick fine, (1 hour in holding, pay your ticket and go)(so I'm told...). It kinda puts a :( on the evening. P.I.B. is a blast! Have fun. |
Re: put-in-bay
Thanks for all the info. I was told that island is a lot fun. We are looking forward to partying at put-in-bay.

Re: put-in-bay
THeres a handfull of us that are on the islands about every weekend, RHC, Team Baja, Crazybastard, DonziChick, Scott, ect. ect.....post a thread closet to the time your planning on coming.
Roger, count us in on the run again this year, I havent been on OSO in a while, are you still in the 36?? :drink: |
Re: put-in-bay
We went up the weekend after July 4th weekend last year. The place is out of control! I had an absolute blast. I can't remember where we launched but we docked at Dan's Marina right in the heart of Put-n-Bay. It fit my 35' just fine and I felt safe leaving it there. We stayed in a hotel and just used the boat to pleasure women with boat rides and what not....
To anyone who hasn't been, I highly recommend going at least once. It has the same characteristics as Vegas, 3 days is plenty for your system! |
