Please help, I was scammed...

Bought 2 outdrives on ebay under my dad's e-bay account,
Were bought and paid for Immediately through Paypal
Am currently trying to investigate through ebay, paypal, and the credit card company. I never got them and the seller will not return my e-mails. Please if anyone knows where these really were or if anyone knows the seller or has any more info, I really would appreciate it immensely, Thanks, BBB

Just wait for Paypals investigation, they will refund your money

E-Bay and PayPal will conduct an investigation. If they find that it is a scam you should get your money back. I think you have to wait something like a month before either of them will take action. Read their rules.
I purchased an item on E-Bay and the guy never sent it. I filed a complaint and about 2-3 months later my money was refunded.

Be patient.

I hate to tell you but this is a scam. I sold these drives on OSO about 2 months ago. The pics were taken in my garage and the description is the one that I used here. If I can help, let me know.

I would think contacting the person that bought them from you to see if he still has them might be helpful.

Re: Please help, I was scammed...

I did a quick search for Dan W. Train.
On www.melissadata.com click on "Lookups", then under "Business and Professional" click on "People Finder".
I entered Dan Tain and search came back with Dan W. Train, age 59. There's one in Alton, KS and another in Athol, KS. For a fee you can get his address.
I tried Shanna Scone, none in Kansas. But there is one in Florida and another in Pennsylvania.

Hope this helps.

Re: Please help, I was scammed...

Please pass the word and make sure no one deals with these people ever again. It will cost Mr Train, way more than he scammed me for ! Thanks, BBB

Contact your bank and dispute the charge to your bank account/credit card. Had this happen to me when using PP and my bank credited my account after I wrote them a letter explaining what happened. They inturn went after PP to recoupe thier money.

Call your local postal Inspectors. see if they can help you in anyway. Do you have the guy's mailing address?

I remember that auction, I was watching it because I too wanted a drive (just 1) The history for this person seemed sketchy with no transactions since 2004. I assumed it was a hijacked identity. Unfortunately for you it seems I was right. Get in touch with your CC Co. They should be able to help you out.

Ebay can still work, I bought a spare drive on ebay 5-6 weeks ago. (I did find a member in the area who happened to know the company I was dealing with before I bid though)

Since you paid with a credit card they can probably help. I would pursue that route because no one else will be any help, including the authorities.

Re: Please help, I was scammed...

big ticket items I pay with my CC directly to the person selling.
That way I don't have to fight it out with PAYPAL.
see if you pay through Pay pal with a cc card and then never recieve the item, most folks still call the cc company and pay pal throws a fit that you reversed the CC payment and either takes the money back out of your linked account and or freezes your account. say you had $ in your account because of you had sold something, you cant touch it till they are done with their Intial investigation. :(

What? Why would you blame paypal? I use ebay and paypal all the time.

articfriends 03-08-2006 07:50 PM

Re: Please help, I was scammed...

I use paypal and E-BAY often,I got shafted by a guy with a feedback rating over 400 positive on a stupid 22$ dvd, paypal did there investigation and the guy became a no longer a registered user so they refused to refund anything even though it was determined he ripped me and several others off at the same time. I have bought bigger ticket stuff off E-bay (upwards of 3-5 thousand dollars) with NO issues. I'll repeat this advice I gave last time a e-bay scam was mentioned: IF YOU ARE BUYING ANY THING THAT COST MORE THAN YOUR WILLING TO LOSE (with me that point is about 500$) OR YOUR SUSPICIOUS ABOUT A SELLER-ASK THEM FOR FULL CONTACT INFO-HOME PHONE NUMBER,CELL NUMBER,WORK NUMBER,ETC then google their name and phone number to see if they exist, call them and see if they are for real. I have went as far as asking for them to E-mail me a new(current) pic of the item for sale. If they refuse then its a SCAM! If you were selling something in a autotrader you would list your cell number, home number, pager etc,why would someone hide just because its a E-bay sale?If you were selling a motorcycle or boat or anything substantial and a out of state buyer asked for a new pic or firm cotact info most people would bend over backwards to provide info to a potential buyer.A guy had a good price on a snowmobile I was real interested in last fall,I e-mailed him asking for the above info,he said he didn't have a home phone, cell phone or work number,a digital camera to take a new pic or anything other than a E-mail address. Screw that,NO ONE selling something on E-bay is that obscure or behind the times. I have people tell me that E-bay is all scams,I don't feel that way though, just protect yourself by gathering more info,Smitty

Smitty - great advice! I was scammed a few years ago and in hindsight it was SO obvious. But I learned from it. If I buy anything on ebay that's more than a few hundred dollars I do the same thing. Home phone, name, address, etc and check them out!
