Skaterfest Had I known Doug was Ailing I would of dropped everything and been there.One of My major regrets so far this Year . As you can see we were Busy !

I guess you could say that running hard in the open blue sea water a stepped bottom would be unnecessary due to the fact that the surface of the sea is already stepped .

In response to this entire thread, it was all a matter of timing. In 1960, there were exactly two offshore races in the world each year, the industry was turning from wood to fiberglass, from flattish to vee bottoms, from low horsepower-to-weight ratios, from artisans with their entire life in their trade, to a bunch of would-be racers with wild ideas. THERE WAS NOTHING TO COPY! All the players from those days were innovators, They had no choice! Equate this to aviation in the 20's and 30's. Try to think of something original in that field. Boating is pretty muuch the same way. Don't compare latecomers to the originals. They were just born too late!
