Default Anybody Own A 282 Ob Cobalt W/ Twin 496's?

I am looking at a Cobalt open bow 282 9ft beam with 2 496 mags in it and just wanted to know if anybody out there had any experience with this model. I talked to Cobalt's manufacturing/marketing dept in Kansas and they no longer put in 496's because of the huge power. Most came with a single 496 HO and would wun in the low 50's. Boat has a dry weight of 8800 lbs roughly. I currently own a 262 open bow and love it, tons of room and runs 58 gps loaded down with 502 mag in it (bravo 3). This boat is supposed to run in the low 70's with 3-4 people and a fair amount of gear. In an open bow, that is movin' pretty good. Boat has an enclosed full head with porcelain toilet with 5'10 head room, yes, in an open bow. Any opinions, please let me know..

I have a friend that has worked on them at a dealer in TX. He speaks highly of the quality and build of the boats, but I have no info for you on the model.

That said, I don't think I would upgrade to a boat only 2 feet longer if I was considering going to twins. Wait a season and go bigger, or go for an older bigger slightly used model.

I think Brian has a good point.

You love your 262 and the 282 won't change your life.

Just your gas budget.

Having said that... cool boat.

I think of them more as river runners than Offshore/Great Lakes with the open bow... but cool boat.

Well, unfortunately, with the family, I can't get any closed bow performance boat. I always have a group with me and what I was thinking was the 9' beam would provide quite a bit more room. Boat also has an extended swim platform under the main swim platform.. if that makes sense. Mine does not currently have that. This boat has a better hull design and is much, much deeper than my 262. Another problem though is I have to upgrade mu truck.. I have an '04 F150 s-crew. I would probably got w/ f350 S-Duty ext cab...??

Wouldn't need an F350 just a good 3/4 ton. Unless you plan to keep the truck for your next "Larger" boat
