The one draw back to a GPS system as opposed to radio tracking such as Lo-Jack is that if the vehicle ends up in a warehouse it will not get reception.

Tantrum: The radio tracking systems can be defeated easily enough also. The advantage to a 8100 type system or the others is that once it is moved, you get the notification. You sign onto your computer and you track it (this is also stored so you can track it later). You will know what building the thing is in cuz there will be a trail right up to it. The current units you will know within 5 min or so of were you boat is. So lets say your last update was at 2:00 and you know were that was. Draw a radius of were the boat could be based on the speed limits and your boat should be in there.

How hard would it be to just drop the lift and take off?

Sterndrive locks, prop locks, trailer locks! Simple things but it at least will deter theft, esp. on the trailer! Hopefully

I'm sure some of these boats aren't exactly stolen anyway

"I have seen FAR to many boats get stolen on this and other forums over the last few years. Some have never been recovered, others like DamnDonzi and Catmans boats were found but with so much damage that the effort required to fix them is a daunting task."

Daunting? Man, I can think of about 100 other more colorful adjectives to explain that ordeal.

The worst phone call you can possibly get is someone telling you that your boat has been stolen.

Andy Buzz: Do you still carry the GPS tracking system that the reciever is hidden in the boat, and can also be triggered by wiring it to a snap on the canvas? You can set the parameters of how far your boat is going to be moved before it calls/e-mails/pages you (for example 100ft so that if your boat is being worked on, they can move it around the facility without setting it off). That feature, wiriing it to a snap, and then being able to log-on and check on your boat at anytime is the winning combination to me.

It takes less than 24 hours to go from this....to this.

For the record, the finished picture above is what the boat looks like today.

New paint.
New tabs.
New drive.
New engine.
New platform.
New exhaust.
New rub rail.
New........everything.

Damndonzi:
That system that I linked everyone to will do what you are talking about. If you can waite to June the new system will be way nicer. There is going to be a monthly fee for the 8100 but it is the ultimate that I have found so far.
