Cool Let's Talk Air Conditioning

I have been doing alot of research into 5K BTU/H Marine Air Conditioners. Here is what I have so far...

Domestic makes several models:

Vector Compact

Cabin Mate

Cool Mate and Zepher - Exact same units, just different names

Mermaid Marine Air has one model:

Mermaid Marine Air

All models are around the same price $1200 - $1500 and include a complete installation kit. Some models allow for "reverse cycle" heat.

I would like some "real world" stories on these models. Does any have one of these installed? How do you like it? How do you power it? If you had to do it over again, would you buy it again or something else?

Thanks!

Added the 5000 BTU cool mate last year.
VERY happy, Compressor is VERY quiet! Didn't need reverse cycle. Look at load rating (amperage) if you're running off a small (less tha 6kW) generator or are using existing wiring. They pull a bigger load on startup. And small gens tend to burn up fast if they're heavily loaded.
I would reccomend the dial control. They NEVER fail.

Put a Mermaid 5000btu ac/heat unit in my Cigarette. Haven't had any problems with it going on the 3rd year. Love It and would buy one again.

I am leaning towards the Mermaid unit. I know I have a Bullet and you have a Cafe Racer, but where did you install it? Got pics?

Hey clay I put mine under the front seat in the middle of the boat. I'll see if I can get some pics for you.

Clay,
AER out of Houston, Buy Marine Air, Buy the Reverse cycle with heat, Custom order with the High output blower (not the blonde, the ac unit).
I installed one of these on a Hustler 388 that worked EXCEPTIONALLY WELL.
Measure twice, cut once.
