Alabama Politics and Boating

Well,we thought we had this stupid bill killed but it has gained new life with the new versiion  Any boat over 26' 11" in length and capable of over 60 mph will be banned from all 9 Alabama Power Co lakes  Any boat over 30' 6" in length will be grandfathered in but you can't sell it on another lake on take it to another lake, and you cannot replace it with a new one. And if the boat is capable of over 60 mph it won't be grandfathered in,you have 90 days to remove it from the lake.Marine Police is against it,they say it is unenforcable. The fact that we have to even fight such a crazy bill is ludicrious! My state senator says they will whip it but there is a lot of power and money behind it. Most of my time the last 2 weeks has been devoted to fighting this and I resent having to take time from selling boats to mess with this, but it's got to be done. Most of my fellow dealers are unconcerned because they don't sell those boats, but what's next? Bass Boats, personal watercraft? Power Co told me the next group they will go after is Wakeboard boats with ballast systems cause of their wake. I trust my senator when he says don't worry, but it is still frustrating. And please no Alabama jokes :D ,same bill is in Georgia senate, your state could be next,we have to be ever vigilant.

Robert, WTF are the legislators thinking? This kind of knee jerk legislation will be the end of our country. Too many laws and not enough enforcement of the basic laws that we do need.

Yeah, big fast boats hamper development and property values - just look what they've done to poor LOTO

We haven't seen anything like this in KS - yet.

Magicfloat,
Have you contacted NMMA? This kind of legislation should make their hair stand on end. If this were to happen, it would severely restrict the sale of cruisers and houseboats, as well as offshore performance boats.
Good luck fighting this bull**** legislation!
Steve
