I think if you can afford a 40' boat you should be able to afford a dually to pull it. People should stop being so damn CHEAP.

Re: Experience Pulling 40'+ Boat
Its not just the dual rear tires, its the longer wheelbase of the longbed versus short, I own both trucks, I use the dually for boats and trailers over 30 ft or 10k ,shortbed for around town. NO comparison in stability or braking, I live in Phoenix, very mountainous terrain leaving the valley and Ive had my share 'Incidents' my .02

Re: Experience Pulling 40'+ Boat
If I only needed to haul a 40ft boat 200 miles twice a year and didnt want to buy a truck to pull it, I'd have it shipped. Ive done it myself countless times and THERE insurance comes into play if theres an issue, roughly $1.50 per mile 1 way. $1.50 X 400 total miles = $600, problem solved

Re: Experience Pulling 40'+ Boat
Well my boat isn't 40 ft. but damm close 37/10 to be exact. I started towing it with my 3/4 ton Gmc Duramax. Power was no isuue but safety is. I went out and purchased a 1 ton dually and the handeling diffrence was night and day. Ship the boat the 200 miles a year or buy a dually. Just my .02. P.S. I don't think it is the weight that is the issue with the big cats it is the beam IMO. Good Luck
