switchable mufflers

I was told in a different thread that using switchable mufflers is bad for the engine. Does anybody know the theories behind this or have experience using the hardin or teague switchable mufflers.

Re: switchable mufflers

I just installed a set of Hardin switchables about a month ago. They work great but I don't know of any negative effects on the engine. I would be intrested in hearing about any negative effects.

Wide open is awesome sounding, and switched closed muffles it somewhat but don't expect a whisper quiet type of thing.

I have the eddie marine on my H.O. dropped the idle down to 98-102 DB,, saved me from a 250.00 noise violation ticket on Lake George... I don't hardly ever use them, but if I do, only 3,500 rpm and lower..

Thanks for the replies. I dont see how they would cause motor damage or an increase in revision. Anyone else care to shed some light on the subject?

Re: switchable mufflers

the only issue is reversion and if you run that at less than 2000 rpm you should be fine.....they are made to be used in marinas no wake zones and the like, if you run down the lake 50 mph you may have issues. SuperV runs Teagues has never had any engine problems due to the mufflers.

Re: switchable mufflers

Before I switched to full time GGB's, my Teague switchable's recommended not running them in the closed position over 3,500 RPM.
