Re: Stepped Hull Vs Straight Hull

A stepped hul (in most applications) will fly more level in rough water--requiring less tab therefore running faster.

Generally speaking... guys with straight hulls are nicer than guys with stepped hulls. ;)

Exceptions include Scott, Spitfire1 and TSG. :)

That oughtta liven this thread up. :D

Everyone knows that they are dangerous and should be outlawed! Just ask Fund Raiser he was almost thrown out of the boat on a violent 6 inch roller that I hit

Cig Daze has it right some are better than others just check the history on that particular boat model and don't take a 90degree turn at 80mph It's ALL common sense!

BTW mine runs flat just like the picture ALL the time unless I don't trim it right! Once again Common sense!

Pick what you like and enjoy it just learn the boat and it's limitations no matter what kind of hull design it has

Sorry I usually stay out of this debate but sometimes the "hey I heard from a friend"or the "Hey one time at band camp" mentality really fires me up :p

And another thing yes some manufactures did release a hull to the public before they should of and yes they were dangerous or efficient. But not enough for the "old school" thinking to prevail

I agree.

The question should be:

2 boats of equal weight, one stepped, one straight bottomed, which is better in rought water ?

If you are talking Topguns, a T/S will ride better than a traditional V Topgun in rough water.

Yeah... last summer I put my life in Scott's hands.
I kept telling him not to jerk the wheel back and forth like that.
He just wouldn't listen. :D

Actually... in all seriousness.... I think we hit the 80 something mph range.... way faster than my straight deep V.

I felt complete confidence. I could tell we were up on the water... but I could also tell that Scott had total control.

Be happy to take another ride on that beast. Sweet boat.
Good skipper.

Thanks again for the ride. :drink:
