It's just my "humble" opinion, but I would put Lake Travis in the top ten best lakes in the country for "performance boaters". It is a rock-bottom lake, so the water is relatively clear. It is 60 miles long and very deep, so you can run about 50 miles of it. It has "mile marker" bouys that are lighted at night, so you can safely cruise after dark.

It has many marinas along the first twenty miles. Devil's Cove is a MM 9 and Carlos'n Charlie's is at MM 10.

It even has a "clothing optional" public park called Hippie Hollow, so you and your guest(s) can nude sunbathe in public and not get arrested! :D

Add to all of that, you can live in or near Austin, TX. Austin is one of the most "progressive" cities in the country. There are many "different" people living here, but no one cares. It is a very "live and let live" city.

I love living here! :drink:

I prefer an inland lake for two reasons... Fresh water is easier on the power-train, and I am not at the top of the "food chain" in salt water.

Ft Myers/Naples to Texas...like apple to oranges or better yet paradise to prunes. I love Texas but no way to compare. Travis is GREAt but is a lake and land locked with just a handful of drinking/food establishments. But they have really kool poker runs every month.
I love the Corpus/Coast Bend area. Port Aransas/ Rockport are cool and you can head up or down the coast offshore or via ""the ditch".
Surprised at the low cost of housing (even water front) in that area compared to Fla. Very laid back and sort of seasonal (jumpin' in the summer..snowbirds in winter) but also great fishing..25 miles to 100 fathom line.
Best thing is both states have no state income tax!!

Funny you should say that because water property is what im after, and Florida as nice as it is, I personally can not justify paying that amount of money for those type of homes , just because everyone else fell for it .I am spoiled now living on the water, so my next move has to be the best of both worlds a nice size house on the coast

Lake Travis is very high priced compared to the Houston area waterfront. I'd say 2X as much for the same sq ft. Lets not talk about Lake Austin prices!

Friends bought a place on Travis in Lago Vista ..very modern few years old few blocks off the water but came with a floating covered dock somewhere in the $440 range. New developement going in at Palacios (100 mi. sw of Houston) across from country airport and golf club with lots starting at $50K.
Also heard of new developement down at Matagorda starting at 20k on the water.

How about Padre Island

Port Aransas(P.A.)(Port A) is on North Padre Island
Only about 5-7 mile strip om South Padre but nice place but always seems extremely windy. Went for an Offshore race there in '95 and I'm still waiting for them to start the parade lap!!
