Re: texas boating
Texoma is good...and big.
Travis is nice...just outside Austin. Lake LBJ...also nice, about 35 miles from Austin. ...and about 100 other ones. |
Re: texas boating
Lake Conroe
Clear Lake   |
Re: texas boating
take I-10 east out of Houston and about 10 hours later you reach Florida.

Re: texas boating
Just step off the plane from naples/ft myers nice, but the roads are to jammed packed for me

Re: texas boating
Where is the House that you are buying, that will help us narrow it down. What type of boat do you have...that will help too. I boat on Lake Texoma, a 90,000 acre lake about 1 hr north of Dallas. It has lots of hot boats, sand beach islands and big open waters.

Re: texas boating
I have three girls ,I know, dont say it, so anyway i thought maybe San Antonio, because there is so much to do, or Austin ,I really like Corpus Christi because i love the coast for scuba diving etc.we have a 38 fountian now,but do not feel like trailering it all over. So we are looking for a central location for everything, might be asking alot, but we are not limited to a certian area.

San Antoino or Austin for sure, you can't beat Lake Travis  Corpus is full of blow boaters :D |
Texas Lakes
IMHO... The three best lakes in Texas are...
1) Lake Travis - Located in the Texas Hill Country and right next to Austin, this has to be the best lake in Texas. It has several restaurants/bars including Carlos'N Charlies. The Lake Travis Powerboat Association hosts several Poker Runs a year. The "party cove" is Devil's Cove. There are ALWAYS topless women here, especially on holiday weekends. :D 2) Lake Texoma - Located on the Red River along the Texas/Oklahoma border, this lake hosts some "national" Poker Runs. It is a HUGE party lake for Dallas and the surrounding area. It's "party cove" is "The Islands". 3) Possum Kingdom - Also know as "PK Lake", this is a pretty cool lake located about an hour west of Fort Worth. Althought it doesn't host alot of Poker Runs, it is a great place to relax. It's "party cove" is Hell's Gate. |

It has many marinas along the first twenty miles. Devil's Cove is a MM 9 and Carlos'n Charlie's is at MM 10. It even has a "clothing optional" public park called Hippie Hollow, so you and your guest(s) can nude sunbathe in public and not get arrested! :D Add to all of that, you can live in or near Austin, TX. Austin is one of the most "progressive" cities in the country. There are many "different" people living here, but no one cares. It is a very "live and let live" city. I love living here! :drink: |
Re: texas boating
Im glad to hear that ,because my other choice was Ft Myer Florida and the more i go there the more i talk my self into Texas . Corpus Christi does not sound like a place you like . how come?

Re: texas boating
Ft Myers/Naples to Texas...like apple to oranges or better yet paradise to prunes. I love Texas but no way to compare. Travis is GREAt but is a lake and land locked with just a handful of drinking/food establishments. But they have really kool poker runs every month.
I love the Corpus/Coast Bend area. Port Aransas/ Rockport are cool and you can head up or down the coast offshore or via ""the ditch". Surprised at the low cost of housing (even water front) in that area compared to Fla. Very laid back and sort of seasonal (jumpin' in the summer..snowbirds in winter) but also great fishing..25 miles to 100 fathom line. Best thing is both states have no state income tax!! |
Re: texas boating
Funny you should say that because water property is what im after, and Florida as nice as it is, I personally can not justify paying that amount of money for those type of homes , just because everyone else fell for it .I am spoiled now living on the water, so my next move has to be the best of both worlds a nice size house on the coast

Re: texas boating
Lake Travis is very high priced compared to the Houston area waterfront. I'd say 2X as much for the same sq ft. Lets not talk about Lake Austin prices!

Re: texas boating
Friends bought a place on Travis in Lago Vista ..very modern few years old few blocks off the water but came with a floating covered dock somewhere in the $440 range. New developement going in at Palacios (100 mi. sw of Houston) across from country airport and golf club with lots starting at $50K.
Also heard of new developement down at Matagorda starting at 20k on the water. |
Re: texas boating
How about Padre Island
|
Re: texas boating
Port Aransas(P.A.)(Port A) is on North Padre Island
Only about 5-7 mile strip om South Padre but nice place but always seems extremely windy. Went for an Offshore race there in '95 and I'm still waiting for them to start the parade lap!! |
