Default Kiekhaefer Trim Tab Operation

I have a Fountain 48 Express Cruiser that has Kiekhaefer trim tabs and the pumps have a metal reservoir. I do not have an instruction manual. There are two large bolts on each side midway down the pump, is this where you add oil? Currently one has air in the system I think it is low on oil.
Thanks for you help.

Ken you should have a sloted dipstick that will screw out on top of the reservoir. You can add fluid there. I haveattache an illistration that should help you find it.

Sorry I can't see the picture because I'm a basic member. The large bolts have o-rings on them but I did not see any dip stick. There is a small bolt that goes up through the center of the bottom of the metal reservoir. If I'm going to put oil in where the large bolt can be removed do you put it in until it starts to dribbl out? The lable on the pump says to use 10-30w oil. When I undid the bolt a lot of air came out but also red oil that I think is auto trans fluid. If the POwner put trans fluid in would this damage the pump?

Some guys use transmission fluid instead of the 10W30 oil. It is thinner and the tab moves faster. It will not hurt the inner pump mechanism.
With the tab in the full up position fill the reservoir to the proper amount on the dipstick. Then run the tab fully up and down several times to purge the system of any air. Check the dipstick again and top off if necessary.

Ken.....buy a membership. You'll have more questions and the site is a wealth of knowledge. It's money well spent.

On top of all the usual stuff, you don't really want to miss all of Strip Pokers visuals do ya?
