Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
We got some great names from everyone and are now working on these final few as some options for the final name and would like your votes on which ones work best.
So please make your vote and let us know which ones you think first. The first word is the title and the second word is the catch line. Cheers Everyone and appreciate the input. Goes to show why this forum is the top one in the world of powerboating. :) As a way to say thanks to people, everyone who votes and gives us your feedback about the magazine name, on this thread will go into the draw for a free 5 year subscription to the new magazine. Ned P.S. Just so everyone knows the H2O is the name for water :) :) |
Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
Sounds great Ned. I like these. I really liked Racing World, but voted for Full Throttle as you are going to cover more than just racing. ie Poker Runs ect...

Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
There was a publication out called The Racer's Edge by Capt. Bill N... I'm not sure if it is still in circulation though...
I was thinking today of a name for your mag, "Adrenaline" or "RUSH" :drink: |

Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
Troutly - Certainly will be. Here is a list of what we are covering and its not just limited to these ones.
* Offshore Racing from Around the World (Of Course) * F1 Circuit Racers - Champboats in the USA * Drag Boats * Hydroplanes * Jetsprint Boats * Poker Runs Plus anything else that we decide fits into the scope of the magazine. Cheers Ned |

Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
Wonder who came up with Full Throttle?

Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
Full Throttle triggers a bad Charlie's Angels movie memory.
The rest are all too well-worn, overly familiar and unimaginative. Go with H2O stand-alone. I'm assuming you'll guerilla-market the pub and try to get some independent distributors to take it to newsstands so the cover will sell it, not the tag line. By the time you ever made it to the subscription circulars, anyone who would pick it would know it wasn't a softener trade rag. |
Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
"The Racers Edge" is something to do with Nascar collectables amongst other things.
Thats going to be a tough one to use I'd think. |

Ned, welcome to OSO.
Good luck with your mag. Hopefully your standard for what is a "MUST READ" is higher for your publication than it was for this thread. |
Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
Fund Razor - Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the sarcasim :)
The launch issue of the magazine is coming together very nicely. I have some of the team at events all over the place these next few weeks. One is down in the south of Europe covering F1 (Champboat in the USA), one is in Australia covering Unlimited Hydroplanes, one is in South Africa covering their racing and I am off down south here in NZ to cover Jetsprint racing this weekend and then the next round of the NZ Offshore Powerboat Championship the following. If you want to drop me a PM I would personally send you a copy of the launch issue so you can decide if the quality of the magazine is a MUST READ :) :) |

Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update
You may find this useful.
http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?...ate=s3e1a0.1.1 You can search and see who else is using a particular mark. Just because I use a combination of common words, it doesn't preclude you from using them as well. Example- If I had a soft drink named "Lug Wrench" you would not be precluded from naming your magazine the same. Now, if your magazine was named "Lug Wrench" and it was about the soft drink, you'd have problems. Proprietary names are different. You couldn't name your business "Xerox Accounting Service" without infringing on Xerox's mark. Another thing to be aware of is logo art trademarks. You can call your business "IBM whatever" but if you use a graphic image matching or too similar to what International Business machines has registered, you'll have an issue. |
Re: Must Read - Magazine Competition Update

For many of this site's members, CH3OH may be more appropriate.

colorful character... Mr Rickey's still around. He only covers the SBI Races, well not even the races, just the awards party. It's still produced under the name VAPOR TRAILS. THE RACER'S EDGE was a great rag written by Captain Bill Novak. Unfortunatly Bill stopped producing that mag about 10 years ago. |
