R/C Boats
I want to get my daughter an R/C boat for her birthday. I did a search for R/C boats here, and all the links were for SERIOUS hardware boats. She's only 7, and she has a pool in the back yard. I want to get her a Toy, not something that requires anything more than batteries. Looking to spend around $100. I found this http://www.jprtrading.com/shop/produ...roducts_id/182
But it doesn't have a reverse, so it would likely take a beating against the concrete edge's of the pool.
Any suggestions?

go to the nearest toy store, or search on google. nikko makes the majority of all pool toy boats. they make one modeled after a 42 ft cig tiger thats white with green slashes on the side. its pretty fast for use in a pool, and has forward, reverse, turning and all. mine worked great for 2 years, until i decided to take the motor off an old 60mph rc car in the basement and wire it, and hook it up to it. it ran freakin fast....right into side of pool

Doing a search at Tower Hobbies (well-known online hobby retailer) came up with this selection:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...SEARCH=RC+BOAT
The one in particular that caught my eye for your price range was this one:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXKGP2**&P=7
The "RTR" versions (Ready To Run) usually will come with the transmitter too, but most will require that you purchase a separate battery and charger, which can be had for fairly cheap.
There's also places like Radio Shack or Toys R Us to consider too, but the ones listed on the website above probably have a better build quality and usually use more readily-available electronics if something breaks.

that link should getcha rite there, the only other thing i would consider would be an extra battery pack if she plans on using it for over a half hour or so at a time, cuse it takes 4hours to charge the batteries with the charger that comes with it. considerin the 65 dollars come with a charger and battery pack, i definately wouldnt buy the additional charger and battery tehy have listed for 21 dollars, but you can find just a 9.6volt rechargable battery alone pretty cheap. hope it helps

I live in sub-division that is still under construction, and they just added a pond.
Her B-day isn't until May 7 - so I have some time.

Thanks for the links guys.
357, that Tiger model looks like what I'm after.
I don't know anything about the 9.6 batteries (except they sucked in the Makita drill I had 15 years ago.) Is $21 expensive for that?

I bought this one for myself about a year ago on an impulse buy - hell, it was 20 bucks at K-mart. It doesn't even go fast enough in a friggin bathtub to do any damage to itself.
I want to get her something fun, but not a chore. The 15-20 minute battery is probably OK, she has a short attention span.

21 dollars is a good price for the battery and charger, but the kit already comes witih one battery and charger, you would be much better buying 2 more batteries, than a another battery and charger. http://store.yahoo.com/rcfinders/taiyedrc96vn.html theres a link to 9.6 battery packs alone
