can crash boxes be retro fitted with airshifters?
ive heard of the air shifted crash boxes, but was wondering if the air shifters can be fitted to a non air shifter crash box. how do the air shifted ones work? is there a momentary ign kill during the air shifting process? who sells the air shifted ones? any particular ones to stay away from? thx, rm

Ratman, call Gary at ttp://www.marinetechnologyinc.com/supercatrig.html
He's done a few of the types of installs, like on Speedracer.

Re: can crash boxes be retro fitted with airshifters?
I asked this very question of SCS who manufactures the Crashboxes. I was told they can be retrofitted. I have a pair I am saving to do this with. It was not cheap, however still less than the buying the complete system from SCS. I do not remember all the details so I will try to recall the best I can. The kit has an airpump and a air tank to allow an air cylinder to depress a clutch setup like a top fuel drag race car. Like a car you are in nuetral and can shift the Crashbox. I was given the impression this is a really great setup and unbreakable. I do not think you would need a ignition momentary kill. The release of the clutch with the air cylinder can be slow and slip the clutch like a car. I was very impressed. But I just spent a lot of money on Huber 1550's and if they blow I will go this SCS route. http://www.scsgearbox.com
