"Deadliest Catch" last night

 Holy crappola  Did you see the end? They left everyone hanging by ending the show just as one of the boats was nailed broad side by a rogue 60 footer. It looked like the boat was knocked down & you could hear the capt yelling something about the wheelhouse windows being blown in  . I sure hope nobody was on deck when that hit

Aw, man, I missed it last night. Those guys are almost nuts to even be doing that. But some of the crabs they are bringing in are freaking HUGE.

Based on DJD's post:

Maybe not.

I saw the episode, too. Don't think that I'll be boating in the Bering Sea soon.

Pretty damn frightening work.

Did you notice the state patrol had to "escort" the greenhorn safely to the airport????? :D :D :D

That show is definitely addictive.

Re: "Deadliest Catch" last night

I have a freind that does that. When he went out there to do it he as a short kid that was a little bit of a pushover. I met him a few years ago and let me tell you if you get in a bar room brawl you want him on your side now   . He is built like a brik chit house!!! He has lost a few friends overboard over the years. He is now one of the top guys on the boats. It is the money that draws him back each year. He works a few very though months but then travels the world.

Hey the guys in Lake Erie will tell ya that their water is rougher however :evilb: :evilb:

Yea so he didn't get his A$$ beat, just think about how much it cost to bring him back, not only that but the boat would not have been in position to get slammed, had they not brought him back........ I'd have let him jump

Wasn't it the Maverick that went to the bottom in the first episode of the season????? Only two guys made it into their survival suits and only one of them made it to a life raft. Coast Guard found the two of them, the guy in the life raft had survived and they found the other guy dead in the water in his survival suit, the rest of the crew perished.

Sink or swim, baby, sink or swim. As much as that cost them, he could sink.

I wonder what would have happened to him if the camera crew wasn't on board?? I bet he wouldn't have had to jump overboard, I bet they would have thrown him. And wrote if off as another accident............

I love this show also!!!! How about the guy swinging over the side on the hook and almost going overboard...........

Re: "Deadliest Catch" last night

The big vally sunk in the first season.

I though that green horn was the biggest puzzy till I saw the boat that he just go off get smashed by a 60 foot wave. Obviously the boat didn't sink or they wouldn't have the film footage to show on TV. But DAMN what a hit they took!

Big Valley went down with only 1 making it home, that show is off the hook Apache, no way Ice Breaker more like, did you see those crabs grab those guys, one on the finger had to smack it with a hammer to get it of, and one guy almost got the bob-et treatment. Those guys are bad asses.Cig Rules.

How about the Coast Guard weenies harrassing the one boat looking for any minor technicality. There must have been easily a half dozen that boarded. With some of those pots bringing in $3K, a couple hour inconvenience can make or break your whole season.

The coasties doing an occasional board and check seems like a fair trade for them having to parajump and pluck peoples azzes out of the water in bad situations..
Your boat goes down and your bobbing around in 40 degree water ..your praying to see that orange helicopter ..no?

Re: "Deadliest Catch" last night

there is no make or break season any longer due to time restraint, its more of a hit or miss the crab will break your season,, no more free-for-all, there used to be like 250 boats now there is like 90, the ones that are left have quotas to fill,, thats it and their done.. makes their lives a lot easier and a bit less deadly.. still some crazy stuff...

Those who would sacrifice a little bit of freedom for a little more security deserve neither. It was a bull$hit, unecessary intrusion that could have been accomplished enroute to/from port. The CG is tasked with search and rescue, it's their job, they voluteer for it. Some newby officer just had a hard on to get on the Discovery Channel.

You have a good point, however commercial fishers are in their workplace and the CG are tasked to make sure that they are working safely with safe equipment.

That's a bit of a different situation. I'm guessing that the CG have been told to make their presence more obvious because of the show and tragic loss of Big Valley

The CG let them keep working which I think was very reasonable. Also with the new rules, each boat is given a quota so its not an all out run like last year.
