Boat Wax
Has anyone ever heard of Collonite fiberglas wax? Anyone used it? Anyone selling it?
|
I have used it with good results although I found it was hard to remove. I think this product needs to be used in small sections unlike others I have used. You can get it at Boat U.S. and West Marine.

Dolphinite T-Wax is about the best I've used-easy on and off.
|
Lutz, I have used Collinite for years. They make an excellent cleaner also. It requires a little effort to remove but it seems to last a lot longer than any other wax I`ve tried.

How does this stuff stack-up against Liquid Glass? I switched to L.G. mid season last year, and it seemed to help reduce the tea-cup stain from the brackish water - I still need to wash the boat when I get home, or at least by the next morning - but when I wash it, there is little or no stain left. Seems to last for quite a while. I put 3 coats on.

Try "Tree Wax" it's made for waxing boats an works great and is easy to remove!
|
Try 3-m marine fiberglass restorer and wax from Walmart it works easy with good results

If you use Malco wash n' wax, you don't need to wax, puts on a thin coat every time you wash the boat, sounds like a gimmick, but everyone I've given a bottle to always wants more, but i think you might have to go to a car dealership to get it(my wife gets it for me)

Hey Kevin,
Gordo ran a fire call over at John and Cindy's the other day. It was a dryer vent only though. A neighbor called it in right after they turned the power back on and Cindy did some laundry. |
hey kook you had pretty good luck with the liquid glass and the bay stain? i will have to give it a try. how many coats did you start with and how often do you reapply? a couple of times last year after inner harbor trips i had to use on/off to get the racing stripe off. does the liquid glass help to make the racing stripe come of easier??

I thought the whole reson to buy a cruiser was to use the residue from spilled martini's, whip cream, tanning oil and any other slippery things that find their way aboard to protect the gel coat with :D :p
|
For the record yes I have used it and did find it difficult to remove and not as long lasting as several meguirs products. My favorite for protecting is Meguirs HI-Tech #27 pro yellow (4 years as a pro-detailer) This wax is only a protector so you need to go over with a polish or cleaner first.

I like dri-wash stuff, works great on my boat. Although I just got some bioclean for my vinly to try.

Hey all thanks for the reply's,
I was talking with someone in Ohio about boats and he mentioned that he was a Distributor for Collonite and was telling me it was the best thing since sliced bread. I knew if I asked the OSO crowd I would get the real story on the stuff. TFLB Hopefully Gordo was able to extinguish the flame at J & C's  Sherman 4 years pro detailing, geesh man what havent you done :D :D |
Boathead, I like the idea of doing two things at once, also. I use a product like that, too from BoatUS. The only area that I hand wax is the deck and cockpit. I'll have to try the Malco stuff when I run out of what I have now. It is available in Zeeland, MI at Wyrick Co. I buy from them once in awhile. They sell mostly body shop and car detailer supplies.
