liferaft question

I was checking into getting a small life raft to carry in the boat so i called winslow and the 6 person offshore one is $2700. :(

That is a lot of money unless you need it and then it worth a lot more. just hard to justify spending that kind of money.
One of the guys who works for me then asked. so how much did you spend on the stereo and intercom. F in smartass, so does anone have a hookup on life rafts?

While I don't have any contacts in the industry, if you do decide to buy one remember to have it inspected by the manufacturer at regular intervals. You would hate to have use it only to find that the rubber has deteriorated and seams split, or the inflation cartridge is empty. The manufacturer will test it, inflate it, inspect it, recertify it, and repack it.

The purchase may be hard to justify now, but the first time it saves the lives of family and friends the cost won't seem so bad.

All I can say is that if you do ocean boating and you need that liferaft just one time, it's worth it's weight in gold. I would not worry about the price, if you need it---it's PRICELESS

Don't forget to look into an EPIRB and a hand held VHF for emergencies. An EPIRB with GPS capablities is best, but $$$$.

Re: liferaft question

Dan,

I bought a small Mercury stowable tender (plank floor/ rated for 5hp) and a 12 volt quick inflate pump. I use my jumper and inflate the boat in 50 seconds right off of the swim step. I have a 2.7hp cruise and carry 2 stoke outboard to go with it. The tender, motor and pump together weigh about 60 pounds and stow safely in the head closet. The whole set up cost less than a $1000 new. I use it in Catalina but it is also a good back up in case of trouble...
