Re: What does everyone know about E85

Ethanol also contains oxygen, unline straight gas, so it should burn more efficiently. gas may contain 120,000+ btu, but engines are about 10% efficient. e85 contains less energy but if put in an engine set to run on it it will be more efficent so you cant just compare the amount of stored energy.

now they also have the "active fuel management system" on those motors that shuts half the motor down at higher speeds and lower torque demands

somehow I have a problem putting mazola corn oil in my tank plus I have never seen a gas station down here that sells it.
Not in my future. Ill stick with the diesel for the truck and high test for the boat thanks.

I've hear engines burn it faster.

In race cars you have to use MONSTER size jets to get enough fuel in
I kinda remember something about actually drilling holes(like 1/8") in the metering plate then using jets to fine adjust...

I have seen the E85 ads on TV but I haven't seen any at the pump.

Word is E85 needs to be about 50 cents a gallon cheaper than gas for it to be more economical to use. E85 stations are hard to find not too many around right now.

I haven't seen that on any pump around me

I'll let you know tomorrow. I have to do some work with a guy that owns a flex fuel (E85 or reg gas) Avalanche. I'll ask him about milage and power idfference.

My Titan is set up for E85, they say about a 30% decrease in mileage.

Ethanol has a much higher octane rating than gas so you would be able to run more compression and more ignition advance to get back some of that lost gas milage.
