Methanol Injection, Anyone use one on a boat?

I never heard of it until today I met a guy with a '03 Mustang with one on it. Any one have one on their boat? It looks like it would be a low cost bolt on to increase hp. and wouldn't cause too much excess strain on the engine. If I could gain 25+ hp for under a grand I think I would do it.

BTW the link has a cool video of a 836hp  Firebird on the dyno.

The biggest benefit you get from alcohol injection is from the cooling effect that it has on the intake charge and the reduction of detonation. I don't think adding alcohol to a correct fuel/air mixture will add hp by itself. If you have too much compression or boost for the available fuel, alcohol injection is one way to control the detonation.

I've got it on my engines. :D It's a 2 stage setup. All controlled by the amount of boost the engine is running. If you're gonna run it, make sure you inject it after the carbs cause the alcohol is kinda corrosive, and you dont want it goin through the carbs.

Ian, "Patriot" is correct in a way. It does'nt make more HP all by itself. It just lowers the cylinder temperature, which allows you to run a leaner mixture without melting any pistons, etc, which in turn makes you more HP. :D

They did this during WW II in the fighter planes. It's nothing new. Top Fuel guys were doing this back in the 60's and 70's, and so were the pro stock guys. That's when I was introduced to it. Now, it's a little more complicated, and you pretty much have to build your own system.

There are systems available for the import performance crowd. I had one on my supercharged 350 ad it was boost referenced as well as hooked to the knock sensor. It would activate when the knock sensor detected pinging. Carroll superchargers in NJ put the system together some years back and I still have the schematics if you need them....
