Konrad conversion updates?
There were a couple conversions being done to I believe sonics. What were the before and after results on performance #'s? I think Doller was doing the work?

We have completed the 42 Sonic, and it has just gone up north. The initial results were very good as far as boat attitude, but until the 10 hour break-in period is up we will not have top speed results. I will keep you posted. The second conversion is underway, this is a 38 sonic, here are some pics, the second engine went in yesterday, and we will let you know as soon as we have some testing results.

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
those stainless rams look sweet, a lot nicer than the aluminum ones merc uses!

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Yes, all of Konrads componants are top notch!
Oops, got my Mercury racing blue toenails in that photo! |
Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Lookin' good Mindi! :D
Paul flogged those drives at many poker runs last year with no problems. Now he is installing Brodix heads and more boost, and he's not worried. This conversion is worth every penny. |
Re: Konrad conversion updates?

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Doller Offshore took her for her maiden run this afternoon-Got up on plane much easier, held close to the same speed and rpm for her cruising speed. They can't run flat out until the break in period is over. They will retest again later this week when it stops raining.

Re: Konrad conversion updates?

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Damn that is almost a perfect match!!! Did ya take a picture of the boat with you to the store and ask "Hey I need some nail polish like this", or did you have the paint shop mix that up custom :drink:

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Is the break in on the motors or drives? Hope your luck is as good as everyone else that has made this swap over.

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Hey Jon, break in time on the Drives....Konrad has a protocol to follow.
|
Re: Konrad conversion updates?

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Just got back from Florida today . We sea trialed the boat with the new drives. Boat got up on plane faster and the attitude was much better it carried the bow much easier. We don't have top speed numbers yet because of break-in procedures. We will be launching her again next weekend. But she's home right now.

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
NJ Sonic went out last weekend, still has not completed the break in time, but the boat sure performs great. Got right up on plane with a boatload of people, used to have to coax it up...still have to play with props.
Here are my initial observations....These conversions were done on two boats that couldn't keep from breaking their drives...Although I do not think we are going to see speed variances worth mentioning, (we are still playing with props on the 42, the weather where these boats are has not been cooperating..) I believe the stress free, uninterrupted boating trips are what is going to make these customers the happiest. The differences in the boat attitude, between the CG and the fact they are 8 more inches off the transom are Hugh with these two boats. I will update as soon as we are able to get final speed testing, so far, performance is better due to quicker planing, top speed TBD. |
Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Updates? I know they are broken in now :D
|
Re: Konrad conversion updates?
The 42 is running just about the same speed, better attitude and he could not be happier because he has had no drive failures! He is finally getting to go out and enjoy his Sonic any time he wants! One of the drive reservoirs does tend to want to overflow, Konrad is working on that.
The 38 Sonic is still prop testing, I will get an update shortly. We are extremely happy with the products and people at Konrad. I cannot say enough about the product, it arrives professionally packaged, ready to install and performs flawlessly! Everyone at Konrad is easily accessible, knowledgeable, and Kurt has been great! My team did a fantastic job on the refits, and are looking forward to the next one! Back to you soon on the 38 speed results! |
Re: Konrad conversion updates?
It's really nice to have a 'mid HP' drive available, Very professional looking conversion; nice job by Doller Offshore!.

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
I will be servicing the drives and swapping props this weekend. It has been raining every chance I have to use the boat  .
|
Re: Konrad conversion updates?
good for you, no more weak Bravo's to worry about.
Konrad makes a great drive |
Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Here's an update. Serviced the drives. The upper gears are huge compared to the Bravos. Swapped the props and went boating the whole weekend. Went from 30 pitch P5X's to 34pitch Bravo 1's.The B1's carried the bow better but after I filled up with 192 gals. the P5X's were easier to get up on plane. Still need different props let the real testing begin.

Re: Konrad conversion updates?
Glad to hear your pleased. Those are expensive drives and the result should only be your satisfaction.
What was required for the conversion: Filling transom holes? Engine relocation? Could you email me details, I'm very interested, but can't get an email returned from Konrad. Seem like excellent drives. Email me info and parts pricing to: [email protected] Thank you, Kirk |
