Help pulling the 7.4 from the boat!?!

Ok.... working on pulling to motor, disconnected the accessories, exhaust, motor mounts, etc... Do I need to disconnect the outdrive and remove the gimble to pull the motor? What do I do when I have the bell housing disconnected from the motor?

Pull the drive, unbolt the two bolts on the bell housing, unbolt your motor mounts, and the motor is free. :drink:

Yes there is one, but its easy. Being that its your first time, have someone there to help. First take off the prop. The drive is heavy enough. Tilt the drive up and remove the speedo tube . Remove the 6 nuts from the back that hold the drive to the gimbal, remove the tilt pin, remove hydraulic steering pins ( if equipped ). Heres where guys screw up... Then carefully and slowly slide the drive back until its at the end of the studs. Have someone hold it in place. Look into the starboard side , between the drive and gimbal. There will be a small cable hooked up. Thats the shift cable. Sometimes the jaw that holds it, doesnt open up. Use a thin screwdriver to pop open the jaw. Then just slid it off.

yes you definetly need to pull the drive. its possible to do it with the drive on but not really worth the hasle also you need to check gimble bearing alignment when you put it back in anyway. so drives gotta come off.

On some boats there may be room to go forward with the motor when you are lifting it. That is why it is possible to pull a motor without removing the drive. As posted up above, you will need to align the motor anyways so just pull the drive now and make the whole process easier.
