I have two sets of Lifelines. I have two Offshore jackets and two pleasure jackets. The offshore jackets are real bulky and heavy to wear but would work well in a accident. The pleasure jackets are my choice for poker runs.

I use "Suspender" brand. Light weight, automatic inflation, no bulk, does not restrict movement, not sweating to death, does not rub color off on your seat, inflates to a bright yellow.

The Skater seats are really snug. Wearing a full jacket is uncomfortable. Especially in Florida.

What speeds are they rated for?

that all depend , what boat you have , what application is going to be use, what speed are you going to travel, all this have to be take in consideration, i see a lot of people that chose comfort vs. real need, raul

Re: Race Jackets?

What do you need lifelines for? First you need to get the boat in the water and post some pics of it RUNNING!

Those suspender style are very dangerous in a high speed boat. You hit the water at anything over 40 mph and you will not be aware enough to pull rip cords even if you are still conscious. Your Skater is how fast? Plus they offer zero impact protection. Sort of like the the people complaining about wearing auto seat belts "wrinkles my clothes" "uncomfortable" "restricts my movement". I have fallen water skiing and it hurts at 40 mph. I have had many, many friends who drag race come out of a boat at only 100mph and they were always dazed and not aware of what happened while wearing a helmet and a Lifeline race jacket which is heavily padded.

Lifelines or SRP poker run style at a minimum are what is needed.

in an open boat i will go with the high performance , you have to look for something that protects you at impact and have the capability of turn you over as well of keeping your air way as most clear as possible

You want the high performance with the leg straps. If you get thrown the straps will help keep the jacket from going over your head and pinning you underwater. I had this happen as a kid waterskiing at 35mph. Scared the hell out of me.

Brad Zastrow 05-24-2006 02:12 PM

Re: Race Jackets?

Get the best. What is your life worth? I have personally wrecked water ski jackets, only water skiing at 36 mph. And these are what most people wear in a 80mph boat. No good for what we do.

gotime34 05-24-2006 02:33 PM

Re: Race Jackets?

Thanks for the advise...Looks like the high performance with leg straps will do me good. I can't get the one with the padding on the legs because our seats are so tight I can hardly fit now, I don't know how I would fit with another inch or so of padding around my waste/legs.

money is something that people always put inbetwen a good product or they safety.
when you are going to buy a safety product look for feed bact, lab test, reliability, not price.
after all how much you think your life worth, for you or the people that love you(mom, dad , wife , kid's ,etc)

you guys spend thousands of dollars in boat , so put some hundred on safety, get the best of the line always , is a reason why are the best.

ps, if any one need advice in safety feel free to pm your # i will call you and we talk, raul/orss

Re: Race Jackets?

Don't go the Cheap route. Buy the Lifelines. I have gotten thrown from a boat at 50mph and ripped my ski jacket off of me. Lifeline or SRP.
