Certainly not all performance boaters are drunken gold chain wearing manatee killers, but if that's how the majority of the public sees it, then not much else matters.

Yeah....but sometimes people don't notice I'm standing!!!!
Ange, hun......I have no idea who "orss" is....and they don't give a name either. If anyone else reads this thread.......well, they will form thier own opinion about the comments presented. I guess I just don't spend enough time on OSO anymore!
Sorry Raul!

Reggie's nonsensical quotes about bling and girls, the Arkansas Race organizer calling local people, who prize peace and quiet, "irrelevant", and the racer bashing the police question about noise, all go back to the point I keep harping on......... This loud "extreme" image some of us try to portray will bite us all in the *ss.......
Frankly, I like to go fast, out of the way, and as quietly as possible. The constant focus on parties, booze, loud engines and bling has nothing to with performance boating and professional racing.....but should be more indicative of spectators and fans.
Sadly, we have party animals who pose as racers, and racers who, if this keeps up, will be looking for a place to race.
For all the mis-stated mishmash that this poor, uninformed, liberal writer put out in one of the most respected newspapers in the world...... Look no further than your last "in your face" blowhard comments to find the cause.

Nort, I just didn't want you to think he was a Puder clone...not that that's a bad thing either. He's just a really nice guy. Like you. And yea, where the heck HAVE you been? You and your Photoshop skills?
Rain, as much as I hate to say it, you guys are right about perception and reality. I don't think that the author truly got into her subject enough to find out about all the good things involved in racing and boating in general. But she saw enough to color her perception and that of many others. Unfortunately, she chose instead to spout the views of a select few detractors and obviously she didn't bother to learn much background. It would be great if some of the well written letters to her and the editor would prompt a follow up piece by another, more competent author. I'm just not holding my breath waiting on it.

Yeah, like you and the other OSO female team members. Show the WSJ who they should have contracted to write the darn article in the first place! Letters written by other females would have far more weight than those written by the "enemy forces" of men. My wife has already refused my pleading to write, so it is up to you girls now.

I too agree with T2x!
This quote is going to leave a mark!
"After the names of the first winners of the evening were called three times, someone had to retrieve them from the bar just 10 feet away."
This has got to tick off a few!
"Though the company sold fewer of the boats last year, Fountain Powerboat Industries of Washington, N.C., which accounts for about half the cigarette-boat market"
"Boat manufacturer Reggie Fountain, a major sponsor of the Superboat International racing league, says his organization's races offer "the biggest boats, the prettiest girls and drivers wearing so much gold they'd sink if they fell off."
Was Reggie in a race boat this passed weekend?
Sorry, I just couldn't resist!
