Buy one that has memory card slots and mp3 input. That way you can still play your cd's and then play mp3 files when underway.

I have yet to see a cd player that wont skip when you slam a wave.

Sony and Panasonic offer units with memory card slots, others also.

I have tried several, and several mounting positions, (45*, 90*, 180*, doggy style). There are no CD players/changers that are worth a crap in our environments while under way.

iPod, iPod, iPod. Its my favorite accessory for the boat; and probably the best gift I have ever recieved. You can get any number of products, but you can burn all your CDs to the unit, and be ready to go with no CD change hassles.

I have found same as the rest. They all skip. Another alternative is satellite radio. I have a sony head in my scarab with the xm sat radio reciever. If I had a mp3 player I'd undoubtably forget it and be mad(had to remember the beer and ice). I have set up my buds hustler and a few others the same way. Sony has a new remote I put at the helm with a lcd display so I can control it from there and read the source , station, track, etc. Has worked out great for the last 2 years. If your radio is fairly new they may make a plug n play reciever for it.

If you have an auxilliary input via a headphone looking 1/8 connector, that works. Some have auxilliary RCA inputs. (Sony has a whole system bus processor for multiple devices.)

You can also grab an FM modulating broadcast device online (eBay, about $40 ) that will allow you to tune any FM stereo to a frequency that you broadcast your own FM to FROM the iPod. No integration required.

Alpine and a few others have headunits that you can actually drive the iPod through the headunit and remote controls.

I mounted a cd changer using long bolts with a springs above and below the changer so the changer is just suspended in the middle. This was a big improvement over having the changer screwed down tight. They also make head units with built in memory to store music. I think they use a hard drive, don't know how well that would work.
