Twins or Triplets?
While at the Miami boat show a dealer told me that his boat with Triple engines not only ran faster but was more economical to run. He stated that at cruising speed the triple engine boat was 10% more fuel efficient than a twin engine boat of the same size..
I do understand the theory behind what he is saying the triple engines wont be working as hard, but I can not see it making up the difference of an extra engine.
Any opinions or real life experience
lets say a 47 fountain twin 525's against one with the same power but 3 engines..

a 47 Foutain with twin 525s is not going to break 75, but it may break a drive every so often. Besides adding an extra 525 HP, the 3rd drive takes a lot of the load off the other two and it gives you the opportunity to get home on plain in case you lose one.

I understand that but he stated that it would burn less fuel at cruizing speeds 3400 - 3600 rpm I just dont think that it is going to take off that much of a load I could be wrong I have been ONCE before

He's wrong. Ask anyone with a single vs twins in the same hull. Not only does three engines idling take 33% more fuel, the same thing happens at speed, just not 33% more. There is also the added weight and drag of the third combo. If the price of fuel is that important vs speed you should not even consider the triple. The insurance on triples vs twins, (500 prop shaft hp or less each), is more than triple the expense. When I was shopping Black Thunders, insurance was $800 vs $3600 best quote.

All though I can see 3 525's being faster.
