I think that is the old / redesigned Mear Cat. When the new owners brought the companies together they a marketing both lines.

CSI Marine is the owner of Sonic USA, Dakota (center consoles), and the former Mares Cat. It is in fact, a Mares.

True but they had alot of amenities that the boats out there today have stripped out. There are several that I would choose first if I were in the market. It will be interesting to see how Sonic builds them though.
Do they have any in progress.

The Cat has been around for a long time, tough as nails. According to my1996 powerboat guide, the main yard is in Brazil. Also says top speed with twin 502s is 55 Knots +, cruises at 30 Knots.

There are usually a few listed on yachtworld.

How did that boat ride? I heard that it porpoised pretty bad and mid 80's was not enought to get through that?

Re: 38' Sonic cat??

It does seem to have one at around 65-75, I wouldn't call it bad more like annoying (but only did it in the flat water). Out in the ocean it ran great in the 2-3 swells. 72 ish the whole time and never missed a beat. I would think that it needs more power than 525's though. A couple viper 650's or the mec 700 would be nice. Weird it doesn't take much trim at all, maybe a set of tabs would help or possibly a nice 5 blade would work things out.

Here is a used one. I heard they are terrific rough water cats, but not the fastest.http://www.yachtauctions.com/detail.asp?stockNo=12702

Re: 38' Sonic cat??

It nicely fits with the Sonic line....not the fastest, but takes the tuff waves in stride and has a large cabin.

Re: 38' Sonic cat??

I'm sure Sonic will bring it to current technology. I was suprized to see a cat on their site since there had been no talk about a Sonic cat.
