Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.

I had the opportunity to drive on a new Fountain Lightning 38 with the new Mercury 700's. We were on inland lakes which did not give us the space to open it up to its fullest potential. Full tank of gas and 5 people on board it ran to about 115mph on gps. I like the changes on the new lightnings.

Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
WOW  :D nice numbers! I wonder what it would do with a couple of people on board and 1/2 tank of gas down here in Florida? Where these the new orange colored Mercury Racing 700's?
How was it getting on plane and just a simple cruise speed? I wonder what insurance cost compared to my Fountain 38TE would be? |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Serious speed.... Nice
|
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.

|
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.

How was it getting on plane and just a simple cruise speed? Baby asprian orange. Big props take a little longer to get on plane but make up for it on top-end. Zero slippage. |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
SWEET Mark
|
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Props never slipped when coming on plane. Engines stayed at 2200 rpm till the boat got up out of the water, then they started to climb. Even my wife could put this boat on plane, nothin to it. :D

Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.

Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Those are extremely impressive numbers for a 38 with 700's.
|
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Very nice!
How are the new engines and drives... first impressions? Where were these pictures (Fox Lake)? |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Are those the new Ace drives? If so, how was the water pressure at speed and during trimming?
Thanks, Ben |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
It was in the mid-upper 60's :( Memorial day weekend we had mid 90's and now we got this unexpected cold spell.
The engines ran incredible. Idle'd around 750ish, and in gear 650 ish. At 3000 rpm we were cruising about 60. 2500 rpm@ 50. 4000 @ 80, WOT we seen about 5500 @ 115. Funny thing is, we ran out of lake. It sure seemed to me that the boat was not done picking up speed. All this with the drives at #1 !!! Could'nt trim the drives, they were only out one #. Something about loosing water pressure in the lower pickup. I guess that's something they're still working on. We seen around 8-10 lbs. pressure while running, and around 2-3 at idle. The props were 6 bladed Herrings, don't remember the pitch, could find out if you guys really need to know. Frank |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
That's some impressive #'s!!! congrats.
That's pretty low water pressure  Especially under boost |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
I bet after the final dial in by Fountain this boat will see even higher numbers. Dang, what a hull!

Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
How about a ride out of Winthrop one of these weekends Scott? I was hoping to get a ride on a 38' for the demo day, but that was basically scrubbed.
At those speeds, we could run to Chicago and back in an hour :drink: |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
What's this beauty going to cost with the 700's?

Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.

Don't really know the price of that package, but before that boat is sold, it will have 2 complete new power packages from the balancer to the propnut. Frank |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Frank,
Looks like you and Scott are going to be real close for mph. Who is going to lift first!!! :evilb: :drink: It's going to be a fun summer......when it finally gets here. Dan |

Dan, :( unfortunately, I don't have a building full of hot rod boats that are at my disposal., but, as long as it's safe out there, I'm in for the fun. I think the water condition will be the big factor for me anyway.

Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Not much of anything between those blades....
Nice stuff there! |

Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Those numbers are incredible. If you had more room to run and weren't hitting the bottom ; ) I wonder how much more the boat has in it!

Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
This 38 Fountain will be at the Chicago Poker Run on July 21st and 22nd. I just might be the driver of it for the weekend. :D So, if anyone wants to stop by and check it out, on friday we'll be giving "demo" rides. Reggie will be there, along with a few of his new toys, :evilb: I'm sure he'd be glad to take anyone interested in it for a "test" ride.

I get the impression that Fountain is getting older and bolder.
Now 115mph rocks...what was that montly again with 10% down? :evilb: |
Re: Sunday Cruise at 115mph with stock power.
Jesus, you really need that much prop on a light weight fountain? I think thats alot of over kill on the back dont you? I would think the top end would be much better with 4 blades than 6 and about 1/3 the price to boot.
Sounds like these engines are going to be fantastic in the northern states, down here in florida that is uninsurable. |
