Re: Nyc Poker Run Get The Message!
I'm just about over the poker run stuff myself. I only went to one last year, and it was the Jacksonville run, that was basically canceled the day of the run because the first tropical storm of the season rolled through on that exact day. I felt it was the proper thing to do, and even thought the only way my boat got wet, was from the rainfall, we still had a helluva good time. I enjoyed meeting people from Oso that I only knew through cyberspace, as much as I would have enjoyed running the river. It was a really good time. I couldnt go this year, because I had a job to start at the same time, ironically enough, it was at the Mayport Naval Base (Jax). I've even quit going to the poker runs that our boat club puts on because of the bickering of where we should start, where the stops are, etc. Hell, all I want to do is hang out with people that have the same passion for performance boating that I do. I wish there were more clubs that just said "Hey, we're all going to start here, and run to a certain place and hang out for a bit, come if you'd like to". I never plan on winning anything, and I could care less about being fed, but my pockets aren't nearly as deep as what it takes to run in some of the big name runs.

A simple solution to that would be to define the course a little better with a few boats from the organization assigned to direct spectator traffic. That's what they do at the races, and it works out fine.

70 poker runners on the Hudson River have no more rights than any other boat there, unless the USCG or the NYPD shut the river down, which isn't going to happen.

Re: Nyc Poker Run Get The Message!
I have run the NY Poker Run for several years. I did not run this year and it has nothing to do with money for the run, a lot has to do with logistics that I didn't run.
I don't like the Hudson at this time of year, to much junk floating in the water.
2) Instead of a Poker Run that is supposed to be fun it turns into a dash to the bridges.
No one really runs together like a normal poker run.
3) For the amount of this run, the tent for a party is crazy when Liberty Landing has a nice hall on premiss
4) Unlike most Poker Runs no one really hangs out on Friday night, mot people split to different places.
5) And there is no safety involved with this run. No divers on Helicopters if a boat has a mishap.
6) Last the idea of hitting something, taking out a drive, prop or delaminate the boat and having to deal with my Inssurance company when the event is called a Rally: Not a poker run with set rules in place.
