8-10yrs... perfect.
They will enjoy Mystic Seaport, Greenport, Mvinyard, Block isl and especially Fire Island...
I'm sure all the LI, CT board members can help w/ restaurants and marinas in all of these areas.

And like I said, you probably wont have to do 3hr leg runs. check out some charts and you'll see. Newport to MV may be an hour.

25,
Buy maps (Nautical) of Long Island and the entire NJ Coastline. This way when the pics and the suggestions start rolling in you will be able to reference the charts and know what everyone is talking about.

Fire Island has no cars, and is a great place for kids!!! Awsome beaches.

Greenport... Townsend Manor Inn. 93octane. good pool and a walk to town. Town has a carousel w/ brass ring. Greenport is classic East End w/o the pretensiosness(sp?) of Hamptons.

If you do LI sound run, here's how i'd do it.
Run and stay the connecticut side running east.
1. Essex CT - 1nite
2. Mystic CT (seaport) - 1nite
3. Newport (big homes from turn o' the century). 1-2 nite
4. Marthas Vinyard... Edgartown is the place to stay (Jaws filmed there!) 1-2nite
5. Back west to Block Island 1-2 nite
6. Montauk... 1 nite
7. Greenport 1-2 nite (can go to shelter island and Sag harbor from there.
8. Run from Greenport, thru the Shinnecock Canal and run the outside to Fire Island.
9. Fire Island for 2 nites.
10 Head West, come in Jones Beach, have lunch in Freeport or @ Paddy Magees or Jordans Lobster. Run back out of East Rockaway Inlet to the city.

Should be a great managable trip.
Every day should be 3hrs, or much less on the boat.
Sorry, I've got no pics.

BTw.. how old are the kids you'll be with?
Wow Stormrider you really know the area.

Used to cruise w/ the family when young.
Did some last yr w/ the 24.

Grow up boating on LI, gotta retain some of the chit I did when younger.
Try staying 2 nites at the better spots.

Yes i have already done that .....i have a GPS Map 182c ...and unlock map of the 2 region....US004R and US005R....i realy appreciated what you do for Me and my family .....one thing is important ...it`s the quality of the water ....fresh or salt ....but have to be clean and secure for swimming .....cause if it`s the weather look like 2001 when we go to NY ...we launched the boat at Albany ...and go down to Manahtan....we live incredible hot temperature !!!!!!

if you run inside from the hamptons to ffire island, be careful, it can get tricky in the shallows.
if u do decide to run LI, get members help for sure.
i'll do what i can for you.

Townsend Monor Inn in Greenport has a pool, snack bar, restaurant, rooms, showers and bathrooms. Recently went through renovations. I used to work there in the summers when I was in high school. Prices may have gone up since then, we probably drank all their profits for the next 50 yrs.!!!
