Exhaust down tubes. Whos using them?

I figure before I piss off all my new neihbors I better do something about my exhaust. I know some people are using an elbo on their tail pipes that put the exhaust underwater at idle and above water on plane. We contacted Gibson but they only make them for 4" and 4.5" tailpipes. Who makes them for 5"? Anyone using them? Do they work well?

Gino,
Give me a call. I had a set made by CMI. Ateco here in Illinois is a distributor for CMI and we have the specs for a 39 MTI with 5" tails.
They work great!!! No noise at idle and no restriction at speed.

Check wiggler4490, his thread about his elbows they used at LOTO was right along your question. He did a lot of research first and has the contacts for design and build.

Are the tube openings completely underwater at idle, or is part open (breathing)? Do you need to pick up your idle RPM a bit due to the added back pressure. I think they look ugly on the boat, but better that than a ticket? Any idea of costs?

Ya they do not look quite as nice but man to they work well. It is the noise that people that do not own our boats object to so much, take out the noise and hopefully the speed limits and what not go away...... Who knows. I seem to recall Running with the Devil having those years ago for getting in and out of the harbor and when he got to the ocean he would take them off. I also think that he had drilled some smaller holes in the side to prevent reversion. I remember a ladie at the gas dock laughing at them and asking him what they were. He said for the loise and she said it was still loud so he asked her if she wanted to hear the other side and started the other side that did not have them on. She about jumped out of her birtday suit.  :evilb: :evilb:

Randy uses them and we are going to have to have them on the new 44 so give Gary Stray a call.
