Salt Water Boat...Should I Worry????
 

I'm interested in a 2000 Baja 25' Outlaw w/104 hours on it. About 70 of those hours are from salt water. They say it was always dry docked and stored under a roof, and used the fresh water flush system on it. I'm not familiar with the concerns of salt-fresh water boats and need some input from you guys. Should i even consider buying it? The boat is now in Indiana where it's been for about 2 years and always garaged kept. I just need some help here. What should i look for, or ask about? ANY help is appreciated. thanks guys!

Just have it surveyed and look at it with your own eyes. There's no way to tell how someone treated the boat in the salt otherwise. Flushing the motors is important, but a small part in keeping a salt boat corrosion free.

Unless it is way cheaper like 5k or more than comparable non salt Outlaws I would look somewhere else. There are tons of Outlaws all over the midwest they are a very popular boat. Good luck on your search. If you have looked already traderonline is a great site to check out.

If they were honest enough telling you this it may be worth a survey. Look at the boat carefully for any excessive corrosion and maintance records.

BL is right, flushing the engine EVERYTIME is very important, but only part of cleaning/maintaining a salt water boat. I flush our engines for 15 minutes each, I spray my motors with WD-40 about every 4-5 times out, and wash the boat everytime! If a saltwater boat is properly maintained as I described above, unless you weretold before hand, you couldn't tell that any of my last 5 boats were saltwater boats.! :D

My Formula was a salt water boat in it's previous life. I've had it 3 seasons without any problems. A lot of fresh water boats I looked at weren't well maintained and weren't as nice as mine. It's all about how well the boat was taken care of.

Exactly.............................How many up north fresh water boats are destroyed due to cold weather or improper storage. Any offshore boat that has been used in FL is a salt water boat so they can't all be bad!
