Re: Merc 250 Xs Info Needed

I had one on a 22 Velocity CC. It was a great motor, good on fuel and had great manners, it was no problem at low speeds. The new owner of the boat changed the motor to a 250 E-tec and picked up about 4 mph though. The boat ran 62/63 mph with the Merc. We were really amazed at the performance of the Evinrude over the Mercury. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Andy

Speed and fuel burn all depend on the boat you put them on. There is a boat with twin 250xs Opti's in my neighborhhod it is a 30' center console and it runs 80.

Up until last year they needed 92 Octane to run. Merc detuned them a little and they 2005 on now run fine on 89 cotane.

Russ, it's a 29' Lightning Powerboats Center Console. These guys also build the race cats like the Hooter boat.

Thanks for the reply. These guys are on screamandfly.com , selling their wares. I was a lways curious as to the fit and finish of their product.
They seem to have the performance numbers down.

Re: Merc 250 Xs Info Needed

The owner of the company lives in my neighborhood. I did not know this until our neighborhood had a little get together poker run a couple of weeks ago. I ended up at the same table as this boat at the lunch stop and I told him how good his boat looked in the water and it was flying. I was on Driven1's 47 Fountain and we were going 80-85mph and this 29 CC was keeping up with us!!!! That is when I found out he builds them. the boat seems real nice and he can build them simple or plush. That is about all I know.

those lightning's look pretty fast with twinn 250xs on the back 80 mph +...not bad for a 29 foot + bracket

The boat if set up right will do a close 90.
The fuel burn on my 250EFI's = 29gal/hr at full throttle per motor & at 45/50mph cruise around 15-18 depending on the water. Actually not bad if you go easy on the Throttles. Have you looked at the E-tecs? Merc will be probaly a couple mph faster but the E-tec has a great warraty & they appear to be holding up.
