Who uses who's dock lines?
I'm looking for a good quality dock line(s) to replace the aged ones on my AT. I see that Top Knot has a lime colored rope....that is the color I'd like to use. So........Who uses Who's? :D

Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
Buy a spool of colored line and splice you're own. Not that difficult.

Re: Who uses who's dock lines?

I just bought these for Debbie's 22. Very nice lines, and they float. I had the boat name inscribed in them. Very reasonably priced. I think it was myrope, but I'll double check.

Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
Mark, Cuda, Are they lines from Myrope? I had one of those on the rear cleat tied up with a friend and some wave action came in and snapped that line like nobodys business. Great lines but don't use them in stressed situations. And keep the names up so they don't rub the names off on the dock!! :D

Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
They are from myrope. I can attest to the strength of these lines. I was putting my boat on my buddies lift over the weekend and had some issues. Luckily i had a line from the bow to the dock. It is a hydrolift where you have to raise the front all the way up, then raise the back up. well......when the front came all the way up, my boat slid down the lift like it was dropped out of the sky. It would have been on the other side of the marina if it wasn't tied off  Anyway the line held and almost ripped the cleat out of the dock. I couldn't even untie it from the cleat. had to get a screwdriver and work it loose off the cleat.
Was an interesting experience to say the least. |
Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
I got them in 5/8 I believe, so I don't think breakage is going to be an issue on a 22 foot boat. :)

www.myrope.com
I have 6 docklines and 6 fender lines from them. The docklines say Monsoon. I am quite happy with them. |
Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
While we're on this topic, anyone make a thinner line than 3/8"? Those side/front cleats on a Top Gun are dinky, and std 3/8" line is tough to use on those cleats.

Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
Top Knot ropes are poly which float but are far from the best.

Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
Top Knot. Good price, good looking lines, good quality.
|
Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
On a HydroHoist it's a good idea to push the boat back against the lines before you raise the lift. I do it every time. That way ( as your boat is pointing toward the friggin moon ) it will not slip backwards.
If you had to use a screwdriver to remove the line from the cleat, you're KNOT using the correct knot . . . :D |

I was the "friend" that RAddiction was rafted up to. I was looking straight at the line when it parted. The wake-rocking wasn't that violent or extreme, and the broken line would have resulted in a major drama if the raftup had been any more than just the two of us. I selected my lines based on their ability to do their primary job - protect my boat by holding it in place. I understand the attraction of floating lines, or lines with your boat's name embroidered on them - I've bought from every company mentioned here. They all make a well-manufactured product, but there are "horses for courses", and sometimes strength counts more than everything else. In that case, you want nylon braid-on-braid, and I've been very happy with Miami Cordage. Ecstatic, as a matter of fact. Custom-made lines at a price equal to or cheaper than off-the-shelf equivalents. |

Re: Who uses who's dock lines?
Hey my "Friend' :D I'm still looking for what suits our wants and needs......I'm steering towards Miami Cordage........but I'd like to have a lime colored line for the Lloyds Creek raft ups that aren't on the edge of disaster like the last Lloyds Creek dubackle  Thanks Chuck....Again :D See you and Dianne in a couple!!
