was wondering whether the merc 496 mag 375hp will fit in a 94' 23'' nova spyder

the boat had the below options when it was new

merc 7.4L 300hp
merc 454 mac

Yes, it is an easy swap as long as you have all the bolt on components with the 496. Most of the outside accessories are different between the earlier engines and the leter model ones.

i might get a used mag from the classfieds, i'll need a transom and a drive

Drive - Bravo X would do? if in the future i upgrade the engine to the 496 HO?

what other components are a must, i m new to this :rolleyes:

I replaced my 454 Mag with a 496HO. If you are already set up for a Bravo, and it is in good shape, you don't need to do anything with the drive or transom. Drop the motor in and GO!

no there is no drive or transom, that's why i'm asking for recomendations

what about guages? i ve heard that boat engines come with the guages?

How long do you plan on keeping this boat?

There may be cheaper ways of doing it but I would see if you can find a COMPLETE package. When I repowered I could of rebuilt my old motor or found "custom" power for much less money. But, to me, it was worth the $$ to get a complete brand new engine, warranty and all.

The gauges are NOT included. With the 496's you can get the smartcraft system which is pretty nice.

the plan is to keep the boat and not change it. In cyprus the nova 23' is consider to be a powerboat.

i dont know why anyone bought anything bigger here.

the nova i found is a 93' model without an engine and since its the closest i could get to a powerboat i want it.

i wanted a direct fit thats why i think the 496 would be a good option regarding modification and power, also there are a few used in the classifieds that seems to be a bargain

what kind of gauges would i'll need in order to monitor the engine at a certain level?

If you are planning to upgrade to the HO eventually, why not do it now? This way you won't have to open up, and work on, a factory built 496......you are doing right by asking around....you can often find a "almost new" engine,intermediate,and drive at high performance shops.....they will usually give a fair deal on these components. :drink: E
