Re: 32 Spectre

The Spectre 32 is one bad machine. I used to own a 30 Spectre with 300xs. The 32 is a whole different boat and handles extremely well and the lines of the boat in the water are sweet. I got the opportunity to drive one and incredible throttle response with the Ilmor 625's.

FF2,

I've only had her approx 2mos but I am enjoying her. Test drove a DCB F-29, F-26 & the 32 Spectre. The DCB's are like the mercedes benz of cats bling, bells & whisle wise. The Spectre is more of a functional not fancy ride. I'm not into the all show no go boats. Drives like a sports car.

Nascat... how did the DCB handle in comparison to the Spectre? Did you drive the F-32?

No F-32 the first one hadn't been built yet. The F-29 is a sweet ride like I said it cruises like a Cadillac / Mercedes. Very smooth & linear. It had T-525's which didn't really add much excitement to the ride in completely flat, sticky water. I don't know how it handles the sloppy stuff we get here b/c it was like glass that day but in those conditions it did everything you'd want it to & or any PB Mag write said it would do.

I tested the F-26 the same day, same conditions. Basically a Jr version of the F-29. It too was powered by a 525. It drove more like a sports car since it was smaller, nimbler & the less freeboard made the ride a little more exciting. Once again it could have stood some bigger power.

My boat w/ Ilmors has much more throttle response & roll on power, as a DCB equally equiped might have. Currently there are one each of an Ilmor powered F-29 & one F-32 here on Lake Norman but I've not driven or riden in either. I mentioned the DCB is like the Caddy or Benz well the Spectre is more like a Ferrari. Less frill / bling & more raw performance boat. The Spectre is offshore capable where the DCB isn't. To be honest I like them both for different reasons! I'm into bang for the buck & performance where some prefer all show no go!

was in a DCB 29 in Barnegat bay in solid 2' chop with some white caps. it just wasnt gettin the job done, so we went and hopped in my 30 Spectre with o/b's....nite n day diff. i believe the owner of the 29 DCB actually traded in for a 32 Spectre but havent seen him since.

I think the new 32' Spetre is on of the best looking cats I have ever seen. The wrap around winsheild is very functional and looks great.

DCB makes a nice boat....but they aren't in the same league and Spectre, Skater or AMT. DCB's can't handle "offshore" conditions

Re: 32 Spectre

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, here are the specs. from the latest powerboat tests on the DCB 32 and the Spectre 32. Both boats had nearly identical set-ups, so you can see that the Spectre smoked the DCB performance wise.

DCB 32
8500 pounds
Ilmor MV-10 625
Hering six-blade 15" x 33" props
Zero to 20 seconds = 67 mph
40 to 70 mph = 10.5 seconds
Top speed at rpm 121.6 mph at 5700 rpm
Time to plane 8.2 seconds

Spectre 32
8000 pounds
Ilmor MV-10 625
Hering five-blade 15 1/2" x 33"
Zero to 20 seconds = 86 mph
40 to 70 mph = 7.7 seconds
Top speed at rpm 130 mph at 5700 rpm
Time to plane 5.1 seconds

Re: 32 Spectre

I did the same comparison of the two boats, based on the PB article. The Spectre stomps the DCB in performance numbers. However, overall ride and handling are very important. I appreciate OSOs input on both boats. Sounds like they are very different creatures and only a test drive in each could determine the best fit for each person.

Boomer,

Sounds like you're in the market for one of these boats? What type of boating do you do? What are the water conditions that you typically boat in? What ammenities are you looking for in a boat, i.e. cabin, etc.? Like it has been said here, both are great boats, but both have slightly different purposes. Performance and handling wise the Spectre is best in just about any water conditions and the Spectre gives you more versatility, as it works well in the rough ocean type of conditions. The DCB is more of an inland lake boat. They are very popular out west on Lake Havasu. I personaly prefer the Spectre, as I like to boat in the ocean and on the lake. I also don't need any type of under cabin or the bling bling of the DCB.

Re: 32 Spectre

I am just kicking tires right now. We currently have a 40' Hustler, which is a great boat for Lake Michigan. However, it limits us the ability to hit some of the smaller lakes (launch ramps are tough on a boat that long). Right now we are on Lake Michigan, but the kids (10, 10, and 8) really do not like to go out when the waves are greater than ~4'; they love the speed, but hate getting too much air. We do want a bit of a cabin, and I like the fact that the DCB can have small jump seats built into the sponons within the 'cabin'. I have not seen a picture of this set-up, but it sounds great for the kids. We lived in San Diego for two years and looked at the DCBs at the LA Boat Show... very impressed. With that said, the feedback I get is that the DCB is more of a lake boat. I would go with mild power (525s) in anything I get. This would be our first cat, so insurance may be an issue.

Unfortunately, there are few cats (let alone a 32 Spectre or 32 DCB) in the area to get a ride. I picked up a lot of good information off of another site on the two boats as well.

The first thing you should do is get a quote for insurance for a catamaran before you spend time looking at boats. You may not even be able to get insurance on a cat or it might be too expensive.

Re: 32 Spectre

The 32 Spectre would be my choice before a DCB boats. Does DCB's even have a race boat or set a Kilo record?

The 32 Spectre workmanship, lines, performance and overall looks is the best in the business for a 30 - 34 cat.

NasCat, love your cat! I drove it back in January.

Enjoy it!
