Re: How safe is The Bahamas?
Great place for a surprise birthday trip....this is where I took my wife without telling her where we were going...
Paridise Cove near Freeport (no docking facilities though). A very nice family owns several beach cottages there on an old Plantation. They rent their beach during the day to some big casinos to bus tourists there. Better to just stay at Paridise Cove, it is about $175 a night in a beach cottage steps from the beach. http://www.bahamasvacationguide.com/pcove.html Two friendly (once they got to know us) resident black labs walked with us along the beach at night or back into the bush of the plantation. Wonderful, non commerical experience. Excellent snorkeling off the beach to Dead Man's reef. Fried conch for breakfest, lunch and dinner. Who needs more than that! One of our favorite vacations to this day, and that was ten years ago. Norman's Cay still has one of the best anchorages in the Bahamas for boats of less than 4 foot draft. Lots of history there. <gg> |

I'm definitely going to plan this trip next year, and the BiminiSands looks like the place to be for sure. A few questions for you guys please. What is the correct procedure for leaving the US, entering the Bahamas and returning to the US is regards to Customs? What is the best time (Month) of the year to plan a trip over? Mainly thinking about sea conditions. Thanks again Doc |

Remember when crossing that you will be entering the mysterious "Bermuda Triangle". See the link below. My favorite part of the trip is 1/2 way in when you look aroung 360 degress and there is no land.
