Re: The Facts
Lostin, I used to have a heck of a electronic rig intergrated into my acoustic kit back in the 80's and early 90's when I played professionally. I really want to get one of the Roland kits for my music room.
I use to have a bunch of K. and A. Custom Zildjians but I slowly switched over to Paiste Signature and 2002....although Zildjian just came out with some models call Hybrid..kinda a cross of K's and A's that sound really nice...not rock cymbals but good all around medium volume cymbals. |

Re: The Facts
The initial thread that spawned this one, "Fountain and Innovation are Cheaters!" was enough to draw me out of chronic lurkdom. There were so many questions, all of which boiled down to: Who knew what and when? Probably best the thread got pulled or deleted, but if there's anything I learned conclusively from the thread it was that people:
A) Need to reconsider the wisdom of taking something public that later they might want private. B) Take a breath before they post. For example, someone hammered Fever Mike, a former tech inspector, for saying what the latest OSS race in Puerto Rico proved, that lots of boats/teams are breaking technical rules. My guess is there's more to the Wazzup/Fountain story than any of us will ever know, much less have a right to know. But my opinion, and take it only as that, was that putting it out there in the first place, in such a public forum, was a mistake. Judging from the deletion of the thread, the people involved agree. |

I wouldnt call what I do "playin" but Ive always liked drummers more than the lead singers or guitar players (they are a dime a dozen) but a truly talented extremely skilled drum player is hard to find :D (see if we can start another fight on this thread :drink: ) |

(see if we can start another fight on this thread :drink: ) As an engineer, I see ALL (and hear not very much) :evilb: :evilb: :evilb: Guitarists are very expendable these days. My friend Jay Stanley was the guy who wrote "3 AM" for then Tabitha's Secret.....later Matchbox 20. As soon as Rob inked the record deal, BOOM!!! both Jay and the other guy were fired. Jay got payed because of that song and even got some "punative" damages too. It was tough being around him or the other guys sometimes (I go back a little ways with all of them) and the blood got so bad at one time that you couldn't put Rob's mom and Jay's mom in the same room together. (Rob's mom is a piece of work) Hell, my brother was their first Live Engineer but then was fired as they got bigger because the powers that be felt that he was no longer at the band's level. Jay and the other guy (forget his name) were not bad players, had good attitudes but the Record Co. sez u gots 2 go!!! But if you play drums and play them well, you could probably piss on the singer's mom (not Rob's....you will die...by her hand  ) and still keep a job!!! (See Dave Chappelle's "R.Kelly impersonation song he did, "I want to piss on you!" :evilb: |
Re: The Facts
Ah, yes the music industry...both sides...the instrument sales part and the players part....sure are funny. Back in my LA playing days I was once told I need to record the album but I am too tall and my hair is not long enough for the band! I auditioned for another sleezy glammy rock band but they said no married guys allowed but you are the best drummer we've audtioned in 2 months! In Nashville if you are a player in the studio's they will hardly hire you for a tour and if you are a touring musician they will not let you record...WTF? :D

Re: The Facts
David Knight,
Could you enlighten the OSO membership to your facts around this issue. ??? We know the Wazzup side of it. What are your details of what happened ? Thank you for taking the time to respond...... |
Re: The Facts
WAZZUP RACING SHOULD KEEP THE MONEY THEY WON, OSS SCREWED UP ON THIS ONE IT SEEMS AND SBI TOO. LONG LIVE OPA THE{ REAL OFFSHORE RACING } SCREW THE REST OSS SBI :evilb:

Re: The Facts
Air Time,
Not that I don't respect your perspective, but I'm at a loss to understand it. How did SBI and OSS screw up? Isn't part of their job to enforce their own rules. If the boat was illegal last year in SBI and ran that way, yes they (SBI) did screw up in not catching it. But how did OSS screw up? They caught it. Perhaps later than they should have, but they caught it. Ultimately, even if the team was lied to, compliance is the team's responsibility. Not saying they were or weren't lied to, but the responsiblity for their equipment being legal is theirs. I'm at a loss. Enlighten me. |
Re: The Facts
Talking about drums was way more fun!

Re: The Facts
What Can I Say Since They Caught It Later Than Sooner The Team Should Keep There Winnings Up To The Last Race. The Team Thought They Had A Legal Boat? I Feel As If I Got Screwed A Couple Years Ago In A Race I Was In. And When My Health Is Back I Will Only Race Opa But It Does'nt Look Like This Year. :(
|
Re: The Facts
I see what you're saying, though I'm not sure I agree with it regarding the winnings. My guess is that the team, which has a strong reputation for integrity and sportsmanship, probably doesn't want them. Just guessing.
But I don't immediately disagree with your take, either. Have to give that some more thought. And actually, Fever Mike, learning about cymbals and such was pretty fun. I learned a whole lot more about them than about this sorry mess. |

What does Drums, a Fountain, SBI and OSS have in common?

As this forum is your regular communication media I would ask you to enlighten your readers to the facts around this issue, just as we discussed, that do not cast doubt on Fountain Powerboats. I hope to see you at our race on August 6th. You and Anthony have done a great job and we thank you for racing our boat.
