Had a Camera, couldn't get a clear picture of it. Once people see a USCG boat either with a rifle or a camera out they start to hang out like flies. :D

Re: Manatee Zones in NJ ?

what was the honest size of the water yesterday...we were figuring an honest 4-6...but whenever ya mention those sizes on here people think your talking shiiiiit.

CAP071 07-24-2006 07:12 PM

Re: Manatee Zones in NJ ?

You would be suprised on the calls we get on people scared to come through the inlet. honest 4-5. SO You probably did hit a 6-7. I read the reports and it's funny because 1/2 of the people will say 2 footers the other half say 8 footers :D

Most people have NO clue how bad that inlet is at times

That's why I try never to use #'s. Everyone has the internet they can check the weather report and see for themselves.

I think people are talking "chit" when I read statements that they were out in 10-15ft seas by choice with 25 + mph winds and then saying that there boat ate it up.

Anyway, if I recall yesterdays report for the afternoon was in fact 4-6. The morning was worse. Friday was real bad.

I laugh so much when I read, My boat eats up 10 footers at 90 mph

There are only 21 Surf Stations in the entire country and Barnegat is 1 of them. Barnegat inlet is rated in the top five for most dangerous inlets at times with 30 foot seas and 20 foot breakers. It's No joke out there at times

Says something about water temps tho, to have one that far north... global warming?

Re: Manatee Zones in NJ ?

Casino I stand corrected. There are 21 stations, only 5 are on this coast. Barnegat inlet is one of the 5 roughest on the( East Coast). In no order they are

Barnegat
Chatham
Merrimack River
Oregon Inlet
Hatteras

Cape Disappointment In Oregon is probably the worst in the country

Capo,
Those are just stations??? Where does it state it's the roughest of all inlets??
I've talked to Interstate boaters and they did mention that Hatteras is in fact one of the roughest between here and Florida but I doubt the Merrimack in Mass.

Anyway it doesnt matter, stick with the basics, be safe always check the weather and make sure you have a radio to contact the Coast Guard.

Re: Manatee Zones in NJ ?

No they are Surf Stations. There is a Difference between a Coast Guard Station and a Surf Station. Surf stations are for stations that handle rough sh*t as you can see there are only 5 on the east coast.

Endangered Manatee Spotted Off Rhode Island

AP
Manatees, which are usually found only off Florida and the Carolinas, are protected by the Endangered Species Act.

WARWICK, R.I. (Aug. 21) - An endangered manatee made a rare appearance in Rhode Island waters during the weekend, a state Department of Environmental Management official said.

The manatee was seen Sunday in Greenwich Bay off the coast of Warwick. The large marine mammals are usually found only in the warm waters of Florida and the Carolinas.

DEM dispatcher Michael Mahoney said the manatee seen in Rhode Island appeared healthy.

It is not known whether the manatee is the same one seen earlier this month near Manhattan Island in New York. That manatee was tracked as it swam north along the coasts of Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey.

Manatees are protected by the Endangered Species Act. Florida wildlife experts counted 3,116 in their annual survey in February.
