A new channel caled "Sleuth" started on Dish Network. This weekend they played several hours of the original Miami Vice starting with the first episode. Been playing episodes a couple times a day ever since.

I bet Reggie's all giddy that most of the boats didn't make it in the final cut

Both boat companies DEFINATELY got a huge amount of branding. Both companies boats and their logos are prominently featured all over the movie and they absolutely got their moneys worth!
Michael Mann is not only the director, but also the executive producer in charge of ALL aspects of this movie, and thus has the final say on what stays and what goes.
Again, he made sure to say that the boat racing scenes were going to be on the DVD.

It's almost like putting the DogFight scenes from TopGun on the DVD but not in the movie. Does the dog fighting contribute to the plot?

Cool website called YouTube.com is worth checking out. Go under videos, search Miami Vice, and you'll see several video listings, including the scene I mentioned earlier with Phil Collins version from the tv shows pilot. Always worth watching that one. Enjoy!

Good point. In hindsight, the boat race had no real bearing on the plot whatsoever.

We agree !! The boat scenes were always in the T V shows . The story was all drug and shooting !! But very powerful and great photography . We also had a great time at the premier and at the wild after party.Class act ,lots of famous people etc...

I know....but the DogFight scenes are the ones that made me go and see TopGun 3x in the theater....and watch it numerous times on TV or DVD. That was my point....it's the cool factor not plot building.
