How long do you spend at the pump?
It never hit me before, how long it takes to fill my boat up with gas. Saturday I pulled up to the pump and started filling up. Went inside, went to the bathroom, got a burger and fries, ate said meal, bought some beer, and walked out to the boat. The pump was still running. It must take 15 minutes or more to fill up. I wish the wife could pull the boat on the trailer. I would send her to fill it up while I am still in bed.
Also do all of the pumps around you kick off at $50 or $75 when you try to pay at the pump? What a pain in the AZZ. |
Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
The stations around here have up'ed the pumps to 100.00 from 75.00. I still have to restart it 3 times. What a pain in the ASS

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
I spend way to much time at the pump. Probably at least a half an hour. :( I'm usually pumping 250 gallons at a time. Always with two nozzels going. The sucky part is the locks have been removed so you gotta hold em the entire time. The worst part is paying $1200 to fill it up. :(

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
I like the big truckstops as there is usually more room to swing around in there. I'll also drive out of my way (out of the County I live in) to avoid Ethanol mix as well.
I have two fills, one for each tank. If I am filling up; I will hug the island and take the gas hose from my side of the island AND the other side as well. I have two tanks; one for each motor. If you walk in and tell the attendant that you only want to pay once, she can turn on the pump as a "cash sale" but they will probably want to hold your CC while you pump. When you finish, they can ring it up as one sale and charge it inside. All of these tricks will help speed the process, but they are hard to do when the station is packed. Also, if I swipe my Visa card 3 times, my damn bank shuts my card off due to "suspicious activity" until I call them to turn it back on. |
Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
A month ago, after I hit the max it wouldn't accept my card. Wouldn't reset,I had fill the rest with cash. If I remember correctly I was only at about $200 when it stopped. They tried to tell me my card was maxed out. No Way, I wasn't happy. Doug

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
The worst part of $3 a gallon gas is it seems like they slowed the pumps down so you think you're getting your money's worth! I know i'm getting screwed so turn up the frickin' volume so I can get the h*ll out of there!

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
Or how about when you go in and pay for say, $400 on pump one in advance. Then when it gets to like $399.75 the pump slows down so much that it takes 5 mor minutes to get that $.25 I mean damn it is a computer, why can't it shut off instantly instead of crawling the last few feet.
I gave up on pay at the pump unless I have a bunch of buddies going on the boat. Then we just keep shoving everyones debit card in there until we get it full $75 at a time. Although I have been using my miles card for fuel this year. I figure rather than using the debit card I am at least going to get something in return. |
Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
Pumps around here shut off at $100 - some at $50! $50 is not even a full tank in the truck, let alone the boat!

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
20-30 minutes I'd have to guess, that doesn't include the 20 minutes waiting for the guy in the 19 ft bowrider or the guy with the 51 OL ;) taking up the whole dock to move outta the way....

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
What use is "pay at the pump" when you have to go inside to get enough fuel. I replaced the stock tank on my Super Duty with a 40 gallon tank so $75 doesn't do crap.

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
Always WAY over an hour. My tank is only 140 gallons, but the fastest I can set the nozzle is on the lowest setting, otherwise, it sprays back. It's like this from start to finish.

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
I go to the local Shell truck stop, hand them my card and spend about 25-30 minutes pumping gas, 93 octane.
The owner is pretty cool though, he always tells me to get whatever ice I need + a soda on him. Helps make it a less painful experience :drink: |
Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
125 gallons was 45 mins. at the Flying J the other day... the pumps here all shut off at 50.00 on the crdit cards.Mississippi I guess :chimp: :chimp: I found out its not the credit card companys its the gas company's turning them off!!! I just pay cash all the time .The locall BP cuts off at 300.00 on cash when they just turn it on , she tought I had stoped it. I told her I wasnt half way yet  180 gph is fun
I hate it when it gets full and comes out the vent  |
Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
My boat holds 425 gallons of gas....I have run it down and filled up at the marina and put 380 gallon in it the other week...both tanks completely full. I spent $1398 and it took a long long time...around 30-35 minutes of pumping.

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
At $3.70 on the river it's worth pulling it up to the local station they let it run for as much as I need. Usually spend $500/$550  I go about 9:30/10:00 PM less traffic and pay $3.21/gal. I save around $75 and then pull it home (a couple of miles) clean it up and put it back in a day or two later.

Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
200 gallons a side. 400 total I was going on the highway on ramp then getting off on the next off ramp to turn the pig around. They block off the pump and wait for me to get back. I am on a first name bases and they always treat me real nice
I made a 3 foot exstension so now I can stretch the hose to the other side. 12 feet wide and from trailer pintle to drive guard is 59 feet. $1400 fills it takes about a hour. Driving the pig under 100 it will last about three times out. Now that I have 12 hours on the engines were gonna bring it to around 6400rpm. Then I should see the King Demons Suck some fuel. :D Anyone got some money I can borrow for gas? :drink: |
Re: How long do you spend at the pump?
I have 3 tanks, so I can go down in the cabin and have sex while the gas is flowin'. Next time I fill up, I'm going to try to get someone else to come with me.
