Insurance for an 87 Cafe Racer

Anyone know where I can go?

All of my current policies(homowner/landlord/auto) are with Allstate and the say they will insure it, but they also will only insure it up to 320hp per side which is the 6.2 liter s/b...who would power a 35 Cafe with small blocks...

Allstate seems to be out of touch with performance boats, so I'm wondering who else might do a reasonable agreed value policy on and old boat with recent survey...???

Try Ken Collier. I insure my Skater through him and have a smokin rate for the type boat. My folks also insure their Formula with him and got a great rate as well. 1-800-759-2628

You might be out of Sy's range but I would try to call at least.

When I had my Cafe it was insured throught Progressive... It was slow enough for them. That was three or four years ago.

Re: Insurance for an 87 Cafe Racer

Progressive provides liability only on boats 15 years and older.

Buzz Pyhrie from Total Dollar (formerly PMA) insures my 73 Cig. A+++ rated company and agreed value with a current marine survey. It will cost more (sometimes more than double) than someone like an Allstate or Progressive or similar, but the agreed value part of the equation is what helps me sleep better at night.

I had great luck with Sy. Ken Collier is a great guy to deal with also. I just bought his old boat from him and will be insuring it thru his Company. He is a first class gentleman to deal with

be careful and don't fudge the facts on boat / traler or truck. When it comes time to get paid they go over everything with fine tooth comb.

Remember a 7.4 454 circa 1987 only put out 330 HP. What power is in the boat now? If you don't owe money on it why bother with insurance? The coverage will suck and after a few years the premiums will add up to more than the boat is worth by then!

I dont owe anything on the boat, but feel that i need liability at a minimum.

i also just spent 60K repowering it with 496HOs and XR drives...so if somthing happens to it, I'd like to get most of my investment back...

Sean I agree with new power/drives I would want it insured as well. Cool setup with the 496 HO's, boat should hit upper 60's/ low 70's?

State Farm insures my '86 Cafe with 502 Mags. They said I had to stay under 1000hp, and insured it as a cruise because of the 2 sinks and the head. $1500/yr for $250 deductable.
