Something doesn't sound right about those numbers does it?

52GPH at 3500rpm seems high but 65.7GPH at 4000 rpm? .9MPG vs Mercs 1.37mpg? Just doesn't sound right.

What is it, a 625 hp NA motor or a 1500hp sterling?

They are not my numbers. They are taken right from the article. So at a steady 50 MPH the Merc will go 611 miles and the Ilmor will go 360 miles on 430 gallons in the Outerlimits 39 Quattro.

Didn't catch that part I agree probably why the posted it! But I agree those GPH numbers seem really high for the Ilmor! Possible misprint?

That is exactly the way I read the article and test report. Yes both have the same top speed but for cruise speed the Merc 600 wins out..
Does Ilmor have service centers set up around the USA? I know there are none in Tampa.

Definatly Yes, look at some of the other articles published, look at the other GPH posted on the Ilmors. Both great co. that I look forward into doing competition against each other in years to come. This will keep Merc somewhat competitive, and not out of reach for the masses. The sport needs to grow. JJ

Well, as we all know all boating articles can have misleading information. The merc 600 will not win out in many catagories over the 625's. As far as service centers go, there were at least 32 scattered across the US and Canada at last count. You may see them on the Ilmor.com site. At least with the few Ilmor service centers across the US you can get service without the usual Mercury "sorry its not covered" or "lets look into it" bull**** that is normally accompanied by there representitives. Been there done that many times with the blue paint

I owned a Hustler Slingshot with V10s and Arnesons. Great engines!

I sold it to a customer and just bought the next with the same setup.

I will not buy a Mercury anymore in my live.

I would love to know if these GPH figures are right or not? Like I said already I am a fan of the Ilmors but if the figures are correct its a big turn off I wish someone with some facts would let us all know

I only drove the boat for a very short time, but my customer uses it quite much and is happy about the fuel consumption.

I cannot understand where these figures come from.
