i watched that video and was thinking damn that thing got out of shape on a pretty small wave, but then again i imagine its hard to keep a boat pointed the right direction with no skegs on the drives :evilb: ....note to self "do not remove the skegs" :D

Charlie was one of the old Light boats a Sonic? I talked to a guy a few years ago in the Michigan area that had it for sale. Not sure if he ever sold it.

Ratman - you are very welcome my friend!!

Yes I remember being a kid back in '78 and watching that video over and over again - it was a very big deal when that boat flipped over at the time - it was running in flat water with Billy Martin's Bounty Hunter, trimmed all the way up - then it hits a cruiser wake under the skyway bridge and you know the rest. Very tough boat - although the side cracked, it was repaired and went on to race in some very rough races for three more years...

No....but you have to remember that before there were Sonic's, there were banana boats then Coyote's and then Sonic bought those molds and began making boats.

Here is one of our old boats running as both a banana and a Coyote.....kind of like Aronow had to do with the Magnum name on his Cigarette.

Thanks guys.....but the fact is the kid has been around since the beginning and loved racing so much. One time he actually got into the boat for an Open Class race .........and he wasn't even old enough to be there legally......what could a father do? I had to let him stay.

He and I plotting the course for that race on the dash
